The San Diego Padres are on the verge of collapsing this offseason.

They have multiple stars headed for free agency, and San Diego could very easily lose its best two pitchers before next season. Dylan Cease and Michael King are among the Padres headed for the open market.

Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter recently predicted King would sign a five-year, $90 million deal in free agency this offseason, though it's still cloudy which teams will be involved in his sweepstakes.

"An injury-plagued season where he made just 15 starts might take King out of the running for a nine-figure payday, but after Ranger Suárez, Dylan Cease and Framber Valdez, there is an easy case to be made that he is the best available starter on the market," Reuter wrote on Thursday.

The Padres could and should look to be one of the top suitors for King.

It's unlikely they'll be able to resign both King and Cease, as both pitchers are projected to land hefty contracts, but re-signing one of the two isn't out of the picture.

King is one of the more consistent starters in the league when he's healthy. The Padres don't have unlimited money, but they need to dig deep in their pockets this offseason to keep pace with the Los Angeles Dodgers in the National League West. Re-signing King would help them do that.
