You Can Get Paid $10,000 to Barbecue, Hike and Play Sports This Summer

A wine company is looking to pay three people $10,000 each to hike, barbecue and play sports this summer.

The Federalist, a brand owned by Terlato Wines, is hiring a "cabinet of summer," with positions open for the secretary of athletics, secretary of the grill and secretary of the outdoors.

Applicants are being asked to send in a photo of their last hike or trip, a ballgame they attended, or a "food porn" shot from their most recent backyard barbecue.

The Federalist "job ad" for the secretary of the outdoors reads: "Calling all explorers. This person has a passion for the great outdoors and enjoys activities like hiking and camping. They'll have the opportunity to make history from sea to shining sea—from navigating National Parks to rafting down America's mighty rivers."

The ideal candidate for the barbecue prize would have "a spatula in one hand, a bottle of America's craft wine in the other," the company said. "The person applying for this position loves to throw a party and is the ultimate at-home host. They could be the neighbourhood grill master, dinner party planner, or top wine-pong player at game night. $10,000 can throw a hell of a barbecue."

The athletic secretary, meanwhile, should be: "The ultimate sports fan, equally passionate about backyard wiffle ball as they are cheering on their favorite pro team. (Special bonus points for wild game-day rituals involving wine and snacks)."

The three official ambassadors will be expected to share their experiences, so it helps if applicants are Instagram pros, adept at taking perfect photos or shooting enticing videos.

Tony Terlato Jr., vice president at Terlato Wines, said: "The summer of 2021 will be the opportunity for consumers to get back out and travel, visit their favorite baseball stadiums again, and host friends and family that they've missed this past year. We want to give our fans the chance to celebrate and embrace these adventures again, in a big way."

Applicants will also need to explain, in no more than 500 words, why they are the perfect candidate—and share their plans for the summer.

The application form asks: "If awarded the $10,000 prize, tell us how you would make the most of this summer. Think big picture, 'pie in the sky' ideas! What would be your most epic summer itinerary?"

Candidates need to be over 25 and residents of the U.S. Apply here, before July 6. The winners will be announced three days later.
