The days leading up to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal wedding had some serious drama, but Queen Elizabeth II seemed unbothered Tuesday when she hosted her first garden party of the year at Buckingham Palace, People magazine reported. She smiled during the event, wearing a mint green ensemble.

Kensington Palace issued a statement after Markle’s father was caught staging paparazzi pictures, saying it was a sensitive time for the bride-to-be. “This is a deeply personal moment for Ms. Markle in the days before her wedding,” said a spokesman. “She and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr. Markle in this difficult situation.”

It was predicted the queen would wear the same hue to the wedding at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle Saturday, the Express wrote Wednesday. Odds from Coral, an online betting site, were 4 to 6 for her wearing a green hat. “It seems punters are convinced that green will be the color for the queen this weekend and we’ve taken a volume of bets which has left us with no choice but to make it odds on,” Coral spokesman Harry Aitkenhead told the publication.

It was likely the queen would opt for a colorful monochromatic ensemble, since that’s what she normally wears, but in the days leading up to her grandson’s nuptials she broke one of her own rules Tuesday, according to Good Housekeeping, by wearing a champagne floral dress while meeting President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and his wife Emine. She accessorized the dress with black shoes, pearls and her favorite purse, a little black bag by Launer London.

For Prince William’s 2011 marriage to Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, the queen wore a canary yellow dress by designer Angela Kelly and matching hat. She accessorized with pearls, Queen Mary's True Lovers Knot diamond brooch, and beige gloves, shoes, and purse.

More than 600 people were expected to attend the royal wedding, but Markle’s estranged family members were not included. Her half-sister Samantha Grant said she refused to remain silent before the former Suits actress said, “I do,” saying she was an American and she can talk if she wants to.

“If it’s about my life or my father’s, there’s something known in this country as freedom of speech. She doesn’t have a copyright on that, and she’s not gonna tell me that I can’t speak about my own life or my father’s when it’s a matter of public self-defense. The media is disparaging us,” Markle’s sister said to TMZ Wednesday. “I’m not gonna take it. She’s not qualified to suggest that I don’t under any law in this country. This is not Great Britain. I am a United States citizen, and that’s all there is to it. She’s way out of her league to tell me I can’t speak. I’m not saying anything about her, but if I’m talking about my life or my father’s, she has to respect it.”
