Piers Morgan Calls Prince Harry 'Spineless, Self-Pitying Twerp' After First Amendment Comments

British broadcaster and television personality Piers Morgan continued his criticism of Prince Harry on Monday, labeling him "spineless" after his recent comments on the First Amendment.

Morgan wrote in a Twitter post, "I didn't think Harry could go lower than trashing his grandmother as she mourns Prince Philip, but the spineless self-pitying twerp's attack on free speech makes HIM look bonkers not the US Constitution."

The social media post was accompanied by a link to Morgan's latest column at The Daily Mail, in which he further railed against the prince's statement that the First Amendment is "bonkers."

"Like so much of the absurd Meghan-inspired psychobabble that spews out of his mouth, none of this makes any sense, and he clearly doesn't understand what he's saying either," Morgan wrote in his column.

The ex–Good Morning Britain host added, "Though we can safely assume that he just hates anything which affords any protection to journalists to say things he doesn't like, because that has been a familiar theme from the indignant media-loathing Prince for the last few years."

The remarks targeted by Morgan were made by Harry during an interview with actor Dax Shephard for Shephard's Armchair Expert podcast. During the episode, Harry discussed mental health and compared his former royal life to living "in a zoo."

The Duke of Sussex, who recently relocated to California with his wife Meghan Markle, also talked about the media scrutiny following his stay at the home of actor and producer Tyler Perry.

"I don't want to start sort of going down the First Amendment route because that's a huge subject and one in which I don't understand because I've only been here a short period of time," Harry told the hosts. "But, you can find a loophole in anything. And you can capitalize or exploit what's not said rather than uphold what is said."

He added, "I've got so much I want to say about the First Amendment as I sort of understand it, but it is bonkers."

The remarks were also met with backlash by several American lawmakers and political commentators.

"Well I just doubled the size of my Independence Day party," Representative Dan Crenshaw, a Texas Republican, wrote on Twitter. Senator Ted Cruz, also from Texas, wrote: "Nice that he can say that."

Candace Owens, a conservative commentator, asked on Twitter: "Sunday Riddle: How many more Hollywood-style interviews will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle give before they finally achieve the privacy they claim to be so desperate for?"

The Duke and Duchess' Archewell Foundation have been contacted for comment.
