Pit Bull Mauls Teen Girl's Face in Horror Attack

A teenage girl was mauled by a dog in Texas that left her with serious facial injuries, according to a report.

According to Fox4, the 14-year-old needed urgent medical care after she was attacked while at home in Fort Worth, Texas, on Tuesday afternoon.

The girl is said to have been suffered facial injuries inflicted by a pit bull and was later taken to Cook Children's Medical Center.

Fort Worth Fire spokesperson Mike Drivdahl told the network: "A lot of tensions are running high, especially in this case with a kid being involved. It's a tough one."

He added emergency service crews were alerted to a person suffering an animal bite at about 3:30 p.m., at which time they raced to the 300 block of Emma Street east of Downtown Fort Worth.

Upon arriving at the scene, the crews found the teen to be seriously injured, having suffered wounds around her nose.

Drivdahl told the network: "I did talk with the crew that was on scene and they did relay that it was someone with significant facial injuries."

A MedStar spokesperson later told Fox4 that the girl was taken to the medical center and that she had suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries.

Fort Worth Police said the dog did not belong to the family but was owned by a boyfriend who was visiting the family home at the time of the attack.

Officers later told the network the dog was found close to the home and has since been taken by Fort Worth Animal Control.

Drividahl continued to tell Fox4: "While we believe that it is a rare thing for them to happen, they do obviously happen and every situation is a little bit different.

"Until you know what that animal's demeanor is, just be cautious."

No one has been charged in connection with the attack, however, detectives are continuing their investigation.

Newsweek has contacted Fort Worth Police and MedStar for comment.

The attack comes after pit bulls mauled their owner to death during an attack in her own home.

An El Paso Police Department Statement said on Monday that a 59-year-old woman was attacked and killed by her two pit bulls over the weekend.

Her body was found by her daughter after she arrived back at the house.

The El Paso Times reported that the two dogs were impounded by Animal Control officers, while the department confirmed that an investigation is continuing into the incident.
