Video Captures Daring L.A. Plane Crash Rescue, Seconds Before Train Hits

A man was saved by an oncoming train after his plane crash-landed on the train tracks by the LAPD Foothill Division on Sunday afternoon around 2:00 p.m.

LAPD HQ posted the daring rescue to its Twitter page and the video, from bodycam footage, has been viewed over 1 million times.

The clip was captioned: "Foothill Division Officers displayed heroism and quick action by saving the life of a pilot who made an emergency landing on the railroad tracks at San Fernando Rd. and Osborne St, just before an oncoming train collided with the aircraft."

The video showed multiple officers attempting to pull the bloodied and injured man from the aircraft.

The pilot was dragged away from the wreckage, after being pulled out of the plane officers, with only seconds to spare.

Someone can also be heard shouting "go, go go," seconds before the train collides with the aircraft.

The plane crashed on to the tracks due to losing power, according to a tweet by the LAPD Operations-Valley Bureau. The pilot was the only occupant of the plane.

Video footage of the incident from a different angle was also shared on social media.

Epidemiologist and health economist Eric Feigl-Ding shared a video of the crash that showed a bystander almost get hit by flying plane debris.

He shared the video and captioned the tweet: "OMG, train collides with a crashed plane just 2 seconds after LAPD Foothill police pull the pilot from the wreckage earlier today.

"The bystander who recorded this was nearly hit by large flying debris. LAPD officer's body cam further below—amazing heroism."

Newsweek has contacted LAPD Foothill for comment.

Another California plane crash in late 2021 ended up being fatal for the pilot.

On October 11, 2021, pilot Sugata Das was one of the two people who were killed when the twin-engine Cessna C340 crashed in a neighborhood in Santee, California.

The plane was en route to Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in San Diego from Yuma, Arizona and crashed into at least two houses and a UPS delivery truck at about 12:15 p.m. local time.

KUSI News said it obtained the final audio transmission between Das and air traffic control. The controller repeatedly told Das to increase his altitude, the responses from Das are unclear.

The controller repeated: "It looks like you are descending sir. Indeed to make sure you are climbing not descending. Zero two-two golf, say altitude."

He added: "Low altitude alert. Climb immediately. Climb the airplane, maintain 5,000 expedite climb, climb the airplane, please. You appear to be descending again."

Witnesses of the plane crash said it went down along the intersection of Greencastle Street, its wing also clipped a UPS truck. UPS later confirmed that its employee was among the deceased.
