Play It Again, Ennio

Hollywood insiders say that Ennio Morricone's Oscar-nominated score for "Bugsy" bears a striking resemblance to his 1990 score for "State of Grace." It seems the filmmakers used the earlier score on the temporary track for cutting "Bugsy" and fell in love with the music. They couldn't use it twice so Morricone did the next best thing: he created a reasonable facsimile. "A true artist cannot but resemble himself," says Morricone... While critics buzzed over Oscar's snub of Barbra Streisand, the real outrage may be the acclaimed documentaries that were ignored. Among the losers: "Paris Is Burning," "Hearts of Darkness" and "A Brief History of Time."
