'Pokémon Go' April Fool's Day 2021 Event: Start Time, Research and Everything You Need to Know

As the calendar turns to April, trainers will be able to enjoy a special one-day event in Pokémon Go.

The Pokémon world is filled with mischievous or "tricky" Pokémon and the upcoming event—on April Fool's Day, naturally—is dedicated to some of the trickiest Pokémon out there, like Croagunk and Aipom.

For 24 hours, Pokémon Go trainers will be able to complete special tasks, fight a ton of Team Go Rocket Grunts, and catch some of these mischievous Pokémon. You may even find a Shiny or two along the way.

The April Fool's Day event in Pokémon Go begins Thursday, April 1, and runs from 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. local time.

POKEMON GO APRIL FOOL'S DAY EVENT RESEARCH TASKS

There are special timed research tasks that trainers can complete during the Pokémon Go April Fool's Day event. According to the official Pokémon Go blog, trainers will have a week—until April 8 at 11:59 p.m. local time—to finish them.

The three tasks have to do with battling Team Go Rocket Grunts and catching Shadow Pokémon, which you can read below.

  • Defeat 6 Team Go Rocket Grunts - 100xp
  • Defeat a Team Go Rocket Leader -100xp
  • Catch 5 Shadow Pokémon - 100xp

Completion rewards: Super Rocket Radar (x1), 100xp, Stardust (x100)

IN-GAME BONUSES

The following Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild during the event: Aipom, Croagunk, Purrloin.

Team Go Rocket will be appearing more often at PokeStops and in balloons during the event. In fact, Team Go Rocket's team will consist of only Shadow Aipom. If you want to take out these Grunts easily, bring your powerful Fighting-type Pokémon into battle.

For those looking to battle more, the switch timer in the Go Battle League will be cut in half.

There will also be a few Pokémon who appear when you take pictures of your own Pokémon. Aipom and Croagunk will photobomb you throughout the event, giving you more encounters with both species of Pokémon.

Ditto, the transforming Pokémon, will also be appearing more frequently in the wild during the event, as Pokémon it normally transforms into. New to the list of Pokémon that Ditto can transform into is Purrloin. This will remain that way even after the event is over.

Here's a list of Pokémon that Ditto can evolve into for your reference:

  • Hoothoot
  • Spinarak
  • Hoppip
  • Remoraid
  • Whismur
  • Numel
  • Gulpin
  • Bidoof
  • Foongus
  • Purrloin
