'Pokémon Go' Fest Rewards to Include Torkoal and Unknown

Pokémon Go Fest returns to Chicago in July, and Niantic revealed some of the rewards and that players can obtain by taking part in the event.

According to Niantic -- via Serebii -- Pokémon Go players will encounter various Pokémon from different habitats during the event's 1.8 mile walk. This year, Pokémon Go players will have a chance to catch Unknown and Torkoal. Torkoal is notable because it is currently only available in India.

Pokémon Go Fest attendees will also receive a Special Research that will yield "exciting rewards." This could mean special items like EX Raid Passes, TMs or Rare Candy. It might also signify the release of a Legendary Pokémon. Last year's Pokémon Go Fest gave players a Lugia for attending, months before it would be available for everyone.

Tickets for Pokémon Go Fest in Chicago will go on sale May 11 at 9 a.m. PDT and cost $20. Players will only be able to attend one of the two days. More details about the event and hotel accommodations will be made available at a later date.

Niantic is looking to right the wrongs of last year's event after the mobile game suffered notoriously bad connection issues, which resulted in refunds and even a lawsuit. Niantic CEO John Hanke acknowledged the difficulties of pulling off an event like Pokémon Go Fest.

"Go Fest was a challenge for us, there's no doubt," Hanke told IGN earlier this week. "As the person who stood up on stage and directly faced the consequences of having the technical challenges, nobody felt it more strongly than I did. Particularly with all of you in the press there to witness that with us, and all of my board members, all of our partners…It was one of the most challenging days of my professional career."

Hopefully Pokémon Go players will have a better time this year. Pokémon Go Fest 2018 will be held July 14-15.
