'Pokémon Go' Community Day in June & July to be Chosen By Player Vote

After this month's Seedot Community Day event in Pokémon Go, Niantic will let players choose the spotlight Pokémon for June and July.

On the official Pokémon Go blog, the team confirms that similar to the February Community Day event players have a choice between the following four Pokémon: Squirtle, Weedle, Gastly, and Sandshrew.

Unlike the February event, trainers simply have to vote on the official Pokémon Go Twitter account.

A poll will be posted on Saturday, May 23 starting at 9 p.m. EDT and the voting will close Sunday, May 24 at 9 p.m. EDT. The winner of the vote will be June's Community Day Pokémon while the runner-up will be July's.

So, what is special about each choice? Here's a rundown of the Pokémon choices and what trainers will get if it's chosen.

The first choice is Squirtle, the Water-type Starter Pokémon from Gen 1. Squirtle already had a Community Day dedicated to it back in 2018 so this will be another chance to catch a Shiny Squirtle in the game.

However, evolving Wartortle, the evolved form of Squirtle, into a Blastoise during the event window will have it learn Aura Sphere. This Fighting-type attack can currently only be learned by Lucario, so this special attack will give Blastoise an attacking option against Steel-type Pokémon.

Weedle, the Bug and Poison-type Pokémon from Gen 1 is the second choice. This Bug-type has yet to have its Shiny form released in Pokémon Go so this will be the first chance anyone will have to catch this rare variant.

Also, Kakuna that evolve into Beedrill during this event will learn the Ground-type attack Drill Run. This attack gives Beedrill options against Pokémon that it's normally weak against including Fire and Rock-type Pokémon. Not to mention an option against Steel types.

Sandshrew and its Alolan Form are the third choice. This Pokémon also has already had its Shiny form in the game, but this will likely be the best chance to catch the rare variants of both.

Evolving Sandshrew into Sandslash will give both the Kanto and Alolan form the move Shadow Claw. This Fast Attack is the best and quickest option for Alolan Sandslash to power up its Charged Attacks.

And finally the Ghost-type of Gen 1 Gastly. This Pokémon already has its Shiny form in the game, but evolving its evolved form Haunter into a Gengar will have this Pokémon learn Shadow Punch.

Not only does it give Gengar a powerful Ghost-type attack it will certainly be a popular option for Charged Attacks as it charges up faster than other moves Gengar can learn.
