Mystery Creature in 'Pokémon Go' Is Named Meltan

The identity of the mysterious new Pokémon appearing in Pokémon Go has been revealed in a brand new trailer for Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee.

In the trailer, Pokémon Go's Professor Willow talks to Professor Oak from Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee over a computer. Willow explains to Oak that he plans to send him a Ditto, which has appeared in the mobile game in recent days. Willow believes this is a special Ditto, though because it doesn't look like the usual normal transforming Pokémon.

Oak confirms Willow's suspicions, explaining that he found ancient drawings that suggest this creature is a new Pokémon. The new Pokémon that many in the community have dubbed "Nutto" is actually named Meltan.

Check out the new Pokémon trailer revealing Meltan below.

According to a press release sent from The Pokémon Company, Meltan is a Steel-type Pokémon with a body made mostly of liquid metal, which makes its shape very fluid. This Pokémon can use its liquid arms and legs to corrode metal and absorb it into its body. Meltan can generate electricity using the metal it absorbs from outside sources. It uses this electricity as an energy source and for an attack it fires from its eye.

Here is a bit more information on Meltan.

Name: Meltan

Category: Hex Nut Pokémon

Height: 0'08"

Weight: 17.6 lbs.

Type: Steel

The past week has been interesting for the Pokémon community when Meltan was first discovered through a datamine of the mobile game. It had been unclear what this was, leaving many to assume it was the "special" Pokémon that could be transferred from Pokémon Go to Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee this November.

After the Chikorita Pokémon Go Community Day event concluded on Sept. 21, Meltan began appearing in the game. However, whenever a trainer caught one, it would transform into a Ditto.
