July's 'Pokémon Go' Community Day Confirmed to Spotlight Mudkip

Niantic has finally announced the July Community Day event in Pokémon Go and it will feature the Water-type starter from the Hoenn region, Mudkip.

On Sunday, July 21 Pokémon Go players will see an increase in Mudkip spawns during the three-hour event. The event will begin at 4 p.m. local time and end at 7 p.m.. In that time, players will also receive three times the experience points from catching Pokémon.

The Mudkip Pokémon Go Community Day event announcement was accompanied by a short video similar to the one released for the Slakoth event. You can watch the Mudkip event trailer below.

As with past Community Day events, this will be the first time Mudkip's Shiny form will be catchable in Pokémon Go. A Shiny Mudkip changes from blue to purple, but trainers won't be able to determine if they found the rare Pokémon until they interact with it in the overworld.

Lures during the event will last for three hours instead of the usual one and Mudkips that evolve into Marshstomp and finally into Swampert will learn an exclusive move. While Niantic has yet to confirm the exclusive move, going from past Community Day events that featured Water-type starter Pokémon - like Squirtle and Totodile - Swampert will likely learn Hydro Cannon.

Mudkip that evolve all the way to Swampert during the event will learn this exclusive move. Niantic has extended the time to evolve Mudkip and learn the move by an extra hour in the past and the same will likely happen for the July event. Also, Mudkip caught before the Community Day can learn the exclusive move upon evolving so if you're saving one to evolve you can do so.

The Torchic Community Day event in May unlocked two exclusive moves for Blaziken during the window. It could learn Blaze Kick and Blast Burn during the event and the same might happen with Swampert. We'll update as soon as we learn more.

The June Community Day event featured Slakoth and before that was Torchic. What comes after the Mudkip Community Day is unknown, but it could highlight other three-stage evolution Pokémon like Bagon or Trapinch. Pokémon Go players who have been playing for awhile know that the September Community Day will likely feature the Grass-type starter of the Sinnoh region, Turtwig.
