'Pokémon Go' Raid Update: Shiny Giratina & Timburr Debut Before Battle League Begins

A new Raid event has started rolling out across the world in Pokémon Go, and it features the return of one of the Legendary Pokémon of the Sinnoh region, Giratina.

Giratina will be in its Altered Form, making it a bit weaker than its Origin Form, but trainers will have an opportunity to add this Legendary to their Pokedexes. This event also marks the debut of its Shiny form, offering up another reason to go out there and battle one.

Starting Friday, March 13 at 8 a.m. to Monday, March 16 at 10 p.m. local time the Raids will shift to include Altered Form Giratain in Level 5 Raids.

This weekend also marks the start of the Pokémon Go Battle League, and trainers will notice Fighting-type Pokémon appear more frequently in the wild. This includes Timburr, whose Shiny form is also making its debut in the mobile game.

Here's all the information you need about the latest Pokémon Go Raid update, including which Pokémon are best suited to take down Giratina.

POKEMON GO GIRATINA COUNTERS

Altered Forme Giratina is a Dragon and Ghost-type Pokémon making it weak to Dragon, Dark, Ghost, Fairy and Ice-type attacks. Its typing makes it resistant to Normal, Fighting, Poison, Fire, Water, Electric, Grass and Bug-type attacks.

Your best bet to go into battle with a team of strong Dragon-type Pokémon. There are plenty of those in Pokémon Go - especially other Legendaries - and, while Giratina may use its own Dragon-type attacks against you, bringing six of them will deal enough damage before Giratina takes you out.

Here are some examples of the best Pokémon and moves that stand a chance against Altered Form Giratina:

  • Rayquaza with Dragon Tail and Outrage
  • Palkia with Dragon Tail and Draco Meteor
  • Dragonite with Dragon Tail and Outrage
  • Salamence with Dragon Tail and Draco Meteor
  • Laios with Dragon Breath and Dragon Claw
  • Dialga with Dragon Breath and Draco Meteor
  • Mewtwo with Psycho Cut and Shadow Ball
  • Gengar with Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball
