'Pokémon Go' Rayquaza Raid Event: Start Time and Whether Shiny Rayquaza Is Available

The next Pokémon Go update brings the third Legendary from the Hoenn region, Rayquaza, to Raid Battles for a limited time event.

Similar to the Latias Raid Boss event in February, Pokémon Go trainers will have another shot at catching the Dragon and Flying-type Pokémon for three days. From March 15-18, trainers can find Legendary Raids housing the green Dragon.

If you're looking for all the essentials regarding the Rayquaza Raid event including when it starts and ends, check out the relevant information below.

The Pokémon Go Rayquaza Raid event starts Friday, March 15 at 4 p.m. EDT and ends on Monday, March 18 at 4 p.m. EDT.

The Latias Raid event in February not only brought the Hoenn Legendary back to the mobile game, it unlocked its Shiny form. Will the same be the case for Rayquaza? Unfortunately, Niantic confirmed this weekend won't unlock Rayquaza's Shiny Form, which transforms the dragon from green to black.

Trainers, since there has been some confusion, we'd like to confirm that Shiny Rayquaza will not be available during this Special Raid Weekend.

If Niantic decides to change its mind, we'll update this section but don't expect Shiny Rayquaza to be present during the weekend event.

Rayquaza is a Dragon and Flying-type Pokémon, which makes it weak to Dragon, Fairy, Rock and Ice type. Ice-type attacks will do the most damage to Rayquaza so be sure to use Pokémon that can dish out cold attacks.

As for resistances, Rayquaza resists: Ground, Fire, Water, Bug, Fighting, and Grass-type attacks.

So which Pokémon should you bring into battle? If you have these Legendary Pokémon you should use them:

• Mewtwo with Psycho Cut and Ice Beam

• Articuno with Frost Breath and Ice Beam

• Regice with Frost Breath and Blizzard

• Mew with Frost Breath and Blizzard

If you don't have those Legendaries, these Pokémon should help you out

• Cloyster with Frost Breath and Avalanche

• Jynx with Frost Breath and Avalanche

• Mamoswine with Powder Snow and Avalanche

• Piloswine with Powder Snow Avalanche.

• Weavile with Ice Shard Avalanche

• Lapras with Frost Breath and Ice Beam

• Rampardos with Smackdown and Rock Slide

Do you think Niantic will change its mind and bring Shiny Rayquaza as a surprise during the event? What team of Pokémon are you going to bring into battle with Rayquaza? Let us know in the comments section below.
