'Pokémon Go' Second Charged Attack: How Buddy Walk Distance Affects Cost

One major addition to Pokémon Go with the roll out of the new Battle feature is the use of a second charged attack in Pokémon battles.

Niantic touched upon this when they first revealed the PVP aspect of Pokémon Go, but now that it's live we have more information about how charged attacks work and what it takes to unlock them.

We covered how the second charged attack works in actual battles in our guide, but here are some tidbits that you may not know about them:

  • Second charged attack can be changed with a TM.
  • Once a Pokémon learns a second charged attack they can use it in Gyms and Raids.
  • Some Pokémon can't learn a second charged attack. Examples are Metapod and Kakuna.

SECOND CHARGED ATTACK COSTS

How easily a Pokémon learns a second charged attack depends on its Buddy Walk Distance.

The Walk Distance is how long it takes for a Pokémon to earn one candy when they are chosen as your buddy Pokémon. The distance ranges are 1km, 3km, 5km and 10km. Each Pokémon needs a certain amount of Stardust and Candy to learn this second charged attack and it's tied to this distance.

Pokémon that only need 1km to earn a candy need 1km require just 10,000 Stardust and 25 Candy. Baby and Starter Pokémon are also in this group. For example, Togepi is considered a Baby Pokémon and the cost to learn this second attack is less than its evolutions Togetic and Togekiss.

Pokémon that need 3km require 50,000 Stardust and 50 Candy, 5km Pokémon require 75, 000 Stardust and 75 Candy, and 10km Pokémon require 100,000 Stardust and 100 Candy.

Here's every evolution line and how much it costs to learn a second charged attack separated by cost and region:
