'Pokémon Go' Raikou Raids: Counters and Everything You Need to Know

Raikou is one-third of the Legendary Beasts of the Johto region, and the Legendary Pokémon is set to return to Pokémon Go this weekend.

Starting Sunday, January 31 at 10 a.m. to Thursday, February 4 at 10 a.m. local time, Pokémon Go trainers will be able to battle and catch as many Raikou as they can. If you're lucky, you can also find a Shiny Raikou while taking on the Legendary.

If you want to take down Raikou as easily as possible, continue reading to learn more about the upcoming return of the Legendary Pokémon.

Raikou is a pure Electric-type Pokémon, making it weak to just Ground-type attacks.

Pokémon Go luckily has plenty of Ground-type Pokémon that trainers can use in battle against Raikou, including a handful of Legendaries. While there are plenty of options, the optimal attacks are the same for most of these Pokémon.

Unfortunately, there are no Mega Pokémon that will help out against Raikou, but there are plenty of other powerful options to bring to the fight.

Here are some of the best ways to take on Raikou in Pokémon Go:

  • Groudon with Mud Shot and Earthquake.
  • Rhyperior with Mud Slap and Earthquake.
  • Excadrill with Mud Slap and Drill Run.
  • Garchomp with Mud Shot and Earthquake.
  • Landorus with Mud Shot and Earthquake.
  • Krookodile with Mud Slap and Earthquake.
  • Golurk with Mud Slap and Earth Power.
  • Donphan with Mud Slap and Earthquake.

The Raids in Pokémon Go continue to be filled with Johto Region Pokémon for the duration of the Johto Celebration event.

As Pokémon Go trainers have already experienced this week, there are plenty of Pokémon that will be worth catching. Trainers can catch the Johto region starters or other highly-coveted Pokémon like Larvitar and Mareep. Togetic, Umbreon and Skarmory are great Pokémon to take into the Go Battle League, so they are also great to catch during the event.

Debuting in Pokémon Go during the event is Shiny Miltank, and the Normal-type will appear in Level 3 Raids for the event's duration. If you want to try your luck and catch a Shiny Miltank, go to battle with one in a Raid this week.

Here is the complete list of Raids during the Johto Celebration event that include Raikou:
