‘Pokémon Go’ Shiny Sandshrew Appearing in Japan-Only Event

A new Pokémon Go event has begun in Japan and it features Shiny Sandshrew and Alolan Sandshrew’s introduction into the popular mobile game.

According to Serebii, a special promotion is being held in Tottori, Japan where Sandshrew was announced as the mascot for the region. The area is seeing increased spawns of Sandshrew and, for the first time, Alolan Sandshrew in the wild. As has been the case for most Pokémon Go events, a particular Pokémon’s shiny form is introduced into the game, and this time it’s Sandshrew and Alolan Sandshrew.

The special Sandshrew event is set to last until December 19, but there has yet to be confirmation of Shiny Sandshrew or Shiny Alolan Sandshrew found outside of Japan. We will update as soon as we learn more.

This situation is similar to the Pokémon Go Safari Zone in Yokosuka, Japan in August. During that event, Shiny Wingull appeared for those in that area with the rest of the world not seeing the rare form of the Water and Flying-type Pokémon until a few days later.

For those unaware, Shiny Sandshrew turns from yellow to green. The changes in its evolved form, Sandslash, transform the coloring of its spikes from brown to red. Alolan Sandshrew and Sandslash have a more subtle change in color, changing its white underbelly to blue.

The addition of the Sandshrew line’s shiny forms make the list that can be found in Pokémon Go very large. Here’s every Shiny Pokémon found in Pokémon Go:
