'Pokémon Go' Update: Shiny Ponyta and Cubone Are Coming Soon

Niantic became a household name thanks to Pokémon Go but it created Ingress, another AR mobile game, first. Ingress would become the inspiration for Pokémon Go and to promote the release of the latest version, Ingress Prime, Niantic is celebrating its launch by adding a few new shinies into Pokémon Go.

According to Serebii, the Cubone and Ponyta line will get shinies added to Pokémon Go. The color of Shiny Cubone and Ponyta represent the two factions in Ingress, Resistance (Green) and Enlightened (Blue).

Ingress items and clothing will also arrive in Pokémon Go's in-game shop along with the new Shiny Pokémon. Unfortunately, no timing on the event was given but we'll update as soon as we learn more.

UPDATE: Ponyta and Cubone spawns have increased marking the start of the new event.

This is the first time Niantic is cross-promoting its two mobile titles, and there is no indication that Pokémon Go players need to download Ingress Prime to take part in the upcoming Shiny Cubone and Ponyta event or gain access to the new items and clothing.

Adding Shiny Cubone, Marowak, Ponyta and Rapidash brings the Shiny count in Pokémon Go to 123. Recently, the Shiny forms of the Caterpie line were added with the November monthly update. The Gengar line received its Shiny form during the special Gengar Community Day. Shiny Pinsir was added to Pokémon Go after the Safari Zone event in Taiwan.
