'Pokémon Go' Swinub Community Day Announced, Mamoswine Added

The February Community Day even t in Pokémon Go was announced. It will feature Swinub, the Ground and Ice-type Pokémon from the Johto Region.

On February 16 from 2-5 p.m. EST, Pokémon Go trainers will see increased spawns of Swinub in the popular mobile game. This will also be the first time that Piloswine, Swinub's evolution, will be able to evolve using a Sinnoh Stone.

Piloswine evolves into the powerful Mamoswine, and the Swinub Community Day event will mark the first time these mammoth Pokémon will be available in Pokémon Go.

While other details of the Pokémon Go Swinub Community Day are still being kept under wraps, players should expect a new exclusive move to make its debut during this three-hour event. If Piloswine is evolved during the Community Day, Mamoswine will learn a still-unknown attack. Pokémon Go players are given up to one hour after the event ends to learn the new move.

As with other Pokémon Go Community Day events, Lures will last for three hours instead of one but for Swinub's day trainers will earn three times the Stardust for catching Pokémon. This increased Stardust will help trainers earn enough to evolve their Swinub into Piloswine and again into Mamoswine.

It takes 50 Candy to evolve Swinub into Piloswine and likely 100 more to obtain a Mamoswine. A Sinnoh Stone is also needed to evolve Piloswine into Mamoswine. These special items can be obtained randomly in Research Breakthroughs after completing the seventh day of quests, or through Trainer Battles.

And while Niantic has yet to confirm, Pokémon Go players should expect the introduction of Shiny Swinub in the game, which has been the case for past Community Day events.

Mamoswine is just another Pokémon introduced in Generation 4 that evolves from a previous generation Pokémon. Currently in the game, Electivire, Magmortar, Mismagius, Dusknoir, Porygon Z, Weavile, Honchkrow, Roserade, Togekiss, Gliscor and Rhyperior are available to obtain after using a Sinnoh Stone to evolve their Pokémon.

Other Gen 4 evolutions have yet to be unlocked in Pokémon Go, and they include: Magnezone, Glaceon, Leafeon, Gallade, Froslass, Licklicky, Yanmega, Ambipom, Tangrowth and Probopass. The Swinub Community Day sets a new precedent to how Niantic will release these evolutions.
