Pokémon Home Trading: GTS, Wonder Trade & Everything You Need to Know

Pokémon Home is available now for Nintendo Switch, iOS and Android devices, and it allows trainers to have a place to store and trade their Pokémon with players around the world.

The trading feature in Pokémon Home is only available on the mobile version of the app, and, while there are vast differences between the basic (free) and premium versions, both can perform trades just in different capacities.

If you're looking to do some trading in Pokémon Home, here's all the information you need to know.

GLOBAL TRADING SYSTEM (GTS)

The Global Trading System or GTS is an online feature that lets trainers search or deposit Pokémon for trades. It's a great feature to ask anyone around the world for a specific Pokémon whether it's for breeding or just to fill out your Pokedex.

While the GTS does have its problems, like when trainers ask for Mythical/Legendary Pokémon or unrealistic trades like a Level 1 Dragonite, it's still a standardized way to search and ask for the Pokémon you need and want.

The basic plan for Pokémon Home allows just one Pokémon to be placed in the GTS at once. Premium members can deposit up to three Pokémon.

If you want to use the GTS, follow these steps:

Tap the "Trade" tab at the top of the screen to access the app's trade features.

Select "GTS."

Depositing Pokémon

  • If you want to deposit a Pokémon, select "Deposit Pokémon"
  • Tap on the Pokémon you wish to deposit and select "Deposit"
  • Fill in the fields with the Pokémon, gender, level and game it originates from
  • You can also fill the final field with a pre-written message to show potential traders
  • Once fields are filled, select "Continue with these Conditions"

Once a trainer has accepted your trade, you will see a symbol in the GTS option on the trading screen. Open the GTS and tap on your deposited Pokémon to enter a cutscene where your new Pokémon will be sent to you.

Searching for a Pokémon

  • Select "Search for Pokémon"
  • Fill in the fields of the Pokémon you're looking for
  • The "include people searching for Legendary and Mythical Pokémon" option will automatically be checked, but, if you want to weed them out, be sure to uncheck this option
  • Once fields are filled, select "Search with these conditions"
  • A list of your desired Pokémon will populate the screen with the name of the Pokémon that trainer wants. In Pokémon Home, the Pokémon you are searching for's ability, nature and PokeBall it was captured in will be shown as well.
  • Tap on the Pokémon you want and select "Ok" if you accept
  • If you have the Pokémon that trainer wants, you will taken to your boxes to select which one to send
  • Once selected, a cutscene will swap Pokémon

WONDER BOX

Choose a Pokémon you want to trade, and put it in your Wonder Box. After a bit of time, your Pokémon will be traded for another player's Pokémon from their own Wonder Box.

Basic Pokémon Home members can only place three Pokémon at once in a Wonder Box. Premium pass members can store up to 10 Pokémon.

If you want to use the Wonder Box, follow these steps:

  • Tap the "Trade" tab at the top of the screen to access the trade features
  • Select Wonder Box
  • Tap on the plus sign to be transported to your Pokémon Home box
  • Tap on the Pokémon you wish to place in the Wonder Box
  • Once finished, hit the green back button at the bottom of the screen

You'll be notified when these Pokémon are traded.

TRADE ROOM

The Trade Room in Pokémon Home acts like an online lobby to host trainers who want to trade. Creating or joining a room allows trainers to find a trade partner easier.

Depending on the room, there may be times when you don't know which Pokémon is being traded until after it's completed.

Those who use the free version of Pokémon Home will only be able to participate in Trade Rooms, while Premium members can participate and host their own Trade Rooms.

If you want to get involved with Trade Rooms, here's how to do it:

Tap the "Trade" tab at the top of the screen to access the trade features

Select "Trade Room"

Creating a Trade Room

  • Select "Create a Trade Room
  • Select "visible" or "not visible" to determine if Pokémon can be seen before being traded
  • A Trade room ID and scan code will become available for you to share

Joining a Trade Room

  • Players can select to join a Trade Room via a room ID or scan a code
  • Another option is to join a Trade Room randomly. Players can only do this three times a day, but you'll be tossed into a room where you can trade with others around the world

FRIEND TRADE

You'll first need to add a friend to trade with them. Follow these short steps to add friends and accept friend requests.

  • Select "Add Friend"
  • If you have a friend request pending, select it and select "yes" or "no"
  • If you need to add a friend yourself, you can enter your friend's code or scan a code pattern if you are nearby (This is also where you can find your friend code for you to share with others)

To trade with a friend, you can either go to the "Friends" tab and select a friend from the list. A "trade" button will appear.

You can also go to the "Trade" tab and select "Friend Trade"

Once you hit "Trade" a request to the friend will be sent via GPS. Once your friend has accepted, you'll be able to trade Pokémon.
