New Shiny Hunting Method Found in 'Pokémon Sword and Shield' Crown Tundra DLC

Shiny Hunting is a way for trainers to get those rare and elusive Shiny forms in Pokémon games, and The Crown Tundra DLC has introduced a new method to find them.

While the Gen 8 games, Pokémon Sword and Shield, didn't offer much for Shiny Hunters the latest expansion has added a new and relatively easy way to find Shiny Pokémon, especially Shiny Legendaries.

The new Shiny Hunting Method has to do with the Dynamax Adventures found in The Crown Tundra DLC.

Dynamax Adventures can be accessed early on in the DLC, but it's a great place to catch new Pokémon--including Legendaries--and grind for Dynite Ore for special items. However, data miners and Pokémon trainers have found this to be the best chance to Shiny Hunt.

Thanks to data miners, the odds for finding a Shiny Pokémon using Dynamax Adventures is 1 in 300 if you don't have the Shiny Charm. Those odds decrease to 1 in 100 if you have the special Shiny Charm.

Of course, the Shiny Charm can be obtained by catching all 400 Pokémon found in the Sword and Shield Pokedex--not the Isle of Armor or Crown Tundra dex--and talking to the game dev in the Circhester Hotel.

The trick to increasing your odds even further is to catch all four Pokémon on your Dynamax Adventure, including the Legendary or rare Pokémon at the end. So when you get to the menu where you have to select which of the four Pokémon to take with you, you have essentially a 1 in 25 chance that the one you choose will be a Shiny Pokémon.

The menu at the end will show you each of the Pokémon so you can check if they are Shiny before choosing.

It also needs to be said that if you keep the Legendary Pokémon, but you want to Shiny Hunt for it, you won't be able to if you take it. You'll need to take one of the other three or none at all.

Finding Shiny Pokémon in Dynamax Adventures can be a bit costly and time-consuming, so here are some tips to make your journey more cost-efficient and a bit easier.

The first method, and most obvious, is to try and get a team of actual trainers with whom to go on a Dynamax Adventure. AI teammates don't have the same battle-prowess as friends or strangers you recruit online.

The other tip is to use the standard Poke Balls to catch the Pokémon you encounter. They are the cheapest item to use and your rate of catching Pokémon you defeat in the Dynamax Adventure are 100 percent, so there's no need to use a specialized Poke Ball.

You will lose the Poke Balls of any of the Pokémon you did not keep so it would be a waste to use your Beast Ball on something and not keep it.

The Crown Tundra DLC in Pokémon Sword and Shield is available now for Nintendo Switch.
