Which Urshifu to Choose in 'Pokémon Sword and Shield' Isle of Armor DLC

Kubfu and its evolution Urshifu are two new Pokémon added in The Isle of Armor DLC.

While Kubfu is considered a Mythical Pokémon, a subcategory of Legendary Pokémon, it's unique in that it can evolve into Urshifu. Depending on how you proceed in The Isle of Armor DLC story, your Kubfu will evolve into one of Urshifu's two forms.

Each form gives Urshifu a different typing and a new signature attack, but which Urshifu should you choose? We're here to help you decide in this guide to evolving your Kubfu and what makes each Urshifu different.

Kubfu is a gift Pokémon given to you by Mustard in the dojo. Once you complete all three of Mustard's tasks, trainers will be gifted this Fighting-type Pokémon. However, once obtained Mustard will ask you to bond with the newly gifted Pokémon.

There will be points on The Isle of Armor that members of Mustard's dojo will be stationed. Speak to them and you'll enter a cutscene with Kubfu. Visit all of the spots--which will be marked on your map--and return to Mustard to show your progress.

Once that's complete, Mustard will inform you that there are two towers on The Isle of Armor. You may have already seen them on your travels, but you won't be able to enter them until you've reached this point.

The Water and Dark Towers will test your skills in battle with Kubfu. Players will have to enter either Tower with just Kubfu and it's recommended your Pokémon is at least Level 70.

You'll fight your way up five floors until you reach the top and face Mustard and his own Kubfu. Defeat Mustard and you'll gain access to Kubfu's evolution.

Your Tower choice will determine which Urshifu your Kubfu will evolve into so choose wisely.

Single Strike Urshifu is a Fighting and Dark-type Pokémon. You'll gain access to this evolution when selecting the Dark Tower.

Rapid Strike Urshifu is a Fighting and Water-type Pokémon, and you'll gain access to this evolution when selecting the Water Tower.

Both forms are extremely powerful Pokémon with their own exclusive move. Single Strike Urshifu has the exclusive move, Wicked Blow. This 80 base power Dark-type attack always results in a critical hit.

Rapid Strike Urshifu has the exclusive move, Surging Strikes, which is a 25 base power Water-type attack. However, this move hits three times and always results in a critical hit. This is great for breaking through the Sturdy ability and the Focus Sash item.

Single Strike and Rapid Strike Urshifu have the same move sets aside from their exclusive attacks and one other move. Single Strike can learn Sucker Punch, while Rapid Strike has Aqua Jet at its disposal.

Aside from those, both have the same base stats, abilities and G-Max moves upon Gigantamaxing.

The secondary typings make them weak and strong against certain Pokémon.

The Dark typing of Single Strike makes it susceptible to Fighting, Flying, and Fairy-type attacks, which it's four times weak to. Single Strike is also immune to Psychic-type attacks. Rapid Strike is weak to Flying, Psychic, Grass and Electric-type attacks.

Whether to choose Single Strike or Rapid Strike is ultimately up to the trainer's preference and team composition. Both have their strengths and weaknesses. For us, Rapid Strike seems like a more viable option as it's exclusive move gets around an opponent's way to avoid being knocked out.
