Two people were being treated for injuries after an incident near Union Station in Washington, D.C., on Friday afternoon, police said.

A woman was stabbed, and a male suspect was shot by a security officer, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. The investigation is ongoing.

Earlier in the afternoon, officials had warned people to remain clear of the area because of police activity. The situation was not an active shooter incident.

The building is a major train station, transportation hub and leisure destination in the country's capital. It is Amtrak's headquarters and the railroad's second-busiest station, with annual ridership of more than 5 million people.
