'Power' Spin-offs: Everything We Know So Far About Starz's 'Power' Prequel and Sequel

Power may still have five episodes left, which are coming to Starz in January 2020, but that does not mean that the series' creator is not pushing ahead with at least two spin-offs to the series.

Speaking to Deadline, Power showrunner and creator Courtney Kemp said: "One of the spin-offs takes place in the future a little bit, one of them takes place in the past a little bit."

According to other hints Kemp and fellow producer Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson have dropped, the former seems to be running the sequel, titled Power Book 2: Ghost, while the rapper is taking on a prequel to the show.

Everything we know about the Power sequel

So far, we know more about the sequel, titled Power Book 2: Ghost, which will star Mary J Blige in a series The Hollywood Reporter said will have "some of the show's most controversial characters."

According to Variety, 50 Cent called the Power sequel "female orientated," meaning that Tasha St. Patrick (Naturi Naughton) may be back for more. The rapper also said on his Instagram that Power Book 2: Ghost "starts 48 hours after the finale" of Power.

However, it was not clear whether he meant that the events of the show would start then, or that the sequel's release date would be two days after Power stops airing in early 2020. The former seems more likely as, according to Kemp's interview with Deadline, "the last five episodes [of Power] will also give rise to something else."

50 Cent also posted a mock poster for Power Book 2 featuring himself, which may suggest that, somehow, his character Kanan makes a return in the sequel despite dying in Power Season 5.

Everything we know about the Power prequel

While Kemp starts work on Power Book 2: Ghost, 50 Cent seems to be working on a spin-off set before the events of Power.

Though Kemp said the series was set "in the past a little bit," there could be decades between the timeline of the prequel and the events of the main series.

50 Cent captioned an Instagram picture of himself with a vintage police car: "My Power spin-off is so crazy I'm doing the prequel. Wait till you see this s***, TGE influence [The Golden Era] Southside we outside 1988."

The fact that this potential prequel is set in the Southside (a.k.a. South Jamaica, Queens) suggests it will feature younger versions of Ghost and Tommy, who both grew up working the corners of Queens. 50 Cent himself has also born in Southside, meaning that the series is also sure to take inspiration from the "In Da Club" performer's childhood, as previously seen in biopic Get Rich or Die Tryin'.

However, no casting for the younger versions of the characters has been announced, though 50 Cent's Instagram post seems to suggest that pre-production may have already begun.

Power Book 2: Ghost and the unnamed Power prequel are coming soon to Starz.
