Powerball Results, Numbers for 09/18/21: Did Anyone Win the $457M Jackpot?

What would you buy with nearly half a billion dollars?

You could buy the equivalent of eight Caribbean islands, or 100 Lamborghini Veneno Roadsters, or maybe the five most expensive apartments in New York City.

It's a choice someone might soon face, thanks to the Powerball jackpot rising to an estimated $472 million (cash option $342 million). That prize could be even bigger if sales are higher than projected for the next drawing, officials say.

If it is won on Tuesday, the grand prize would be the eleventh largest Powerball jackpot ever claimed.

The largest Powerball prize on offer was $1.586 billion, which was won on January 13, 2016, by three players in California, Florida, and Tennessee.

The previous eleventh highest jackpot was $456.7 million, which was won on March 17, 2018. See the top 10 all-time jackpots below.

The latest giant jackpot comes after no one again claimed the grand prize following Saturday's drawing.

The winning numbers were: 05, 36, 39, 45, 57, with Powerball 11. The Powerplay was x2.

While no ticket matching all five numbers plus the Powerball, there were still numerous winners.

One ticket-holder matched all five balls without the Powerball to win $1million.

Twenty-two tickets matched four balls with the Powerball for $50,000. A further three ticket-holders did so with a Powerplay to double their winnings to $100,000.

The odds of winning the big jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338. And, according to Powerball's official website, each ticket has odds of 1 in 24.9 of winning a prize.

How to play Powerball

Each ticket costs $2 per play, with players selecting five numbers from 1 to 69, in addition to one red Powerball number from 1 to 26. In certain circumstances, players can also multiply non-jackpot prizes by using the Power Play option for an additional $1.

Drawings usually take place twice a week on a Tuesday and Saturday, at 10:59 p.m. ET. Each draw is broadcast live from the lottery studio located in Tallahassee, Florida.

Jackpot winners can choose to take their prize as an annuity, or for significantly less, a lump-sum payment. The annuity option gives you 30 annual payments over 29 years, with each payment increasing five percent until the final payment.
