Powerball Results, Numbers for 01/01/2020: Did Anyone Win the $220 Million Jackpot on Wednesday (Last) Night?

The winning numbers for last (Wednesday) night's Powerball lottery were 49, 53, 57, 59, and 62, the Power Ball was 26 and the Power Play was X2. The jackpot for last night's draw was an estimated $220 million with a cash option of $149.2 million, but did anyone win the Powerball lottery?

Nobody won the jackpot, so the grand prize for the next drawing is an estimated $237 million with a cash option of $160.7 million. The next draw will take place on Saturday at 10.59 p.m. ET.

One player, who purchased their ticket in Missouri, won $1 million by matching five balls. If that player had used a Power Play, their prize would have been doubled to $2 million.

Additionally, 12 players matched four balls and the Power Ball so won $50,000 each. Four additional players matched four balls and the Power Ball and used the Power Play, which doubled their prizes to $100,000 each.

More than 1,000 players won $100 by matching either four balls or three balls and the Power Ball, and nearly 3,000 players doubled this prize to $200 by using the Power Play. More than half a million players won other prizes ranging from $4 to $14 by matching anything from just the Power Ball to three balls.

How to play the Powerball lottery?

Tickets for the Powerball lottery cost $2 per play and can be bought at a licensed lottery retailer in 44 states, Washington DC, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Players will soon be able to purchase Powerball and Mega Millions tickets in Mississippi—the lottery was previously banned in the state but tickets will go on sale on January 30, 2020.

Players choose five numbers from 1 through 69 for the white balls and one number from 1 through 26 for the red Power Ball. The player can either choose the numbers or have them randomly selected by the terminal.

There are nine prize levels, from $4 to the jackpot. The jackpot starts at $40 million and grows each time the jackpot is not won.

What is the Power Play?

For an additional $1 per play, players can use the Power Play which will multiply their prize – not including the jackpot – by either two, three, four, five or 10 times.

If a player matches five numbers with the Power Play, the prize will be doubled to $2 million, no matter the Power Play number, and the x10 Power Play is only in play if the jackpot is estimated to be $150 million or less. The Power Play number is selected just before the drawing.
