Powerball Results, Numbers for 01/01/22: Did Anyone Win the $500 Million Jackpot?

Powerball numbers for the New Year's Day draw on Saturday were: 06, 12, 39, 48 and 50, with the Powerball 07; the Power Play was 2X.

No one won the $500 million jackpot in the drawing, according to the Powerball website.

This means the top prize will climb to an estimated $522 million, with a cash option of $371.5 million, for the next draw on Tuesday, January 4.

But there were some lucky winners on New Year's Day, with three players matching five white balls to win $1 million, and another ticket-holder matching five white balls with a Power Play, which doubled their winnings.

Another 56 players matched four white balls with the Powerball to take home $50,000 each and another 7 won $100,000 by including the Power Play option on their tickets.

A further 1,384 people won $100 by matching four white balls and 316 others doubled their winnings by purchasing the Power Play option.

The last time the grand prize, which then stood at $699.8 million, was won on October 4, last year, by a player who purchased a ticket in California. The win reset the jackpot to the $20-million minimum.

How to Play Powerball

Powerball tickets cost $2 and are sold in 45 states as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Players then select five numbers from 1 to 69, in addition to a red Powerball number that ranges from 1 to 36.

According to the Powerball website, more than half of all proceeds from the sale of a Powerball ticket stay in the area where the ticket was sold.

Drawings are broadcast live every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. E.T. from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee.

Lucky jackpot winners can choose to receive their prize as a lump sum payment, or as an annuity that is paid in 30 graduated payments over 29 years.

The advertised prize option amounts are before federal and jurisdictional taxes come into effect.

According to the Powerball website, the odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million and the chances of winning a prize is 1 in 24.9.

Powerball holds the world record for the largest-ever jackpot winning, which was set in 2016 when winners in California, Florida and Tennessee shared a $1.586 billion grand prize.

The largest jackpot winning of 2021 happened back on January 20, when a ticket holder from Maryland took home $731.1 million.
