President Obama departed the Andrews Air Force Base for Anchorage, Alaska, on Monday morning. He was joined by senior advisors, his deputy chief of staff and his press secretary. But when he arrives in Alaska, he'll be joined by Bear Grylls, a survivalist with a show on NBC, Running Wild With Bear Grylls.

Obama and Grylls will take a special Alaska-centric episode of the show during his visit, though it won't air until later this year (the exact date was not announced by NBC.)

"President Obama will meet with Grylls while visiting Alaska to observe the effects of climate change on the area. The two will then come together in the Alaskan wilderness," NBC said in a statement. Grylls will give the president "a crash course in survival techniques."

Obama is the first president to tape such a show with Grylls. The show has starred other big names, such as Zac Efron, Channing Tatum and Drew Brees.

Grylls is known for a variety of extreme survival tactics but none more extreme than consuming urine. In one episode, he cooked and consumed the urine of Michelle Rodriguez, an actress. The pair also consumed a mouse. Grylls previously starred on the show Man vs. Wild.
