Prosecutor Under Investigation Over 'Intimate Relationship' With Detective Accused of Rape

A 34-year-old Brooklyn prosecutor is under investigation after allegedly being caught having an “intimate relationship” with an NYPD officer accused of raping a teenager.

Assistant District Attorney (ADA) Nicole Manini’s affair with former detective Richard Hall was discovered when his cellphone records were reviewed by her office as part of the rape case, sources told The New York Post.

The 33-year-old former detective is one of two NYPD officers under investigation for allegedly raping an 18-year-old girl in September. A 50-count indictment accuses Hall and his former partner Eddie Martins of raping and abusing the teen inside an NYPD van after she was detained in Calvert Vaux Park for allegedly having illegal prescription pills.

Calls between Manini and Hall, who is married with two children, began before the alleged September 15 rape and continued afterwards. Sources said that phone logs revealed multiple calls between the two.

Manini was referred by the District Attorney’s office to the court system’s Grievance Committee for the Second, Eleventh and Thirteenth Judicial Districts for an investigation. The committee is responsible for prosecuting cases of professional misconduct by lawyers.

“During our investigation of this case, we learned that a junior assistant district attorney in our office was engaged in an intimate relationship with defendant Hall and knew [second] defendant [Eddie] Martins socially,” a spokesperson for the Brooklyn DA’s Office told Newsweek.

“This ADA had no involvement in or access to the investigation or prosecution,” the spokesperson said. “Out of an abundance of caution, we have disclosed this information to all relevant parties.”

The spokesperson said they could not confirm the name of the ADA involved.

Michael David, the attorney who is representing the alleged rape victim, told The Post that he intends to use Hall and Manini’s affair in his client’s pending civil rights suit against Hall, Martins and the city of New York.

“It’s completely relevant to this case. It goes to [Hall’s] credibility,” he said. David did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Martins is accused of forcing the handcuffed 18-year-old to perform a sex act on him while Hall drove the van and watched through the rear view mirror. The detective then allegedly raped the girl before switching places with Hall. Hall allegedly forced the victim to perform oral sex on him while Martins drove the van.

The two detectives claimed the incident was consensual but were fired over the allegations.
