PS+ January 2019 Games List: Freebies to Start the New Year Right

It's almost January 2019, which means the start of a new year of free games is coming to PS+ subscribers. Does Sony get the year off to a good start like Microsoft did with Games With Gold? Let's find out.

It should be noted that PS3 and PS Vita freebies will be coming to an end soon. Sony has announced the final month for free PS3 and Vita games with a PS+ subscription will be February 2019. This means next month is the final month Sony will offer six free games with a subscription.

The first free PS4 game for PS+ subscribers in January is a very appropriate game for the winter season: Steep. This open-world racing game from Ubisoft includes skiing, snowboarding, wingsuiting and paragliding.

Next up for PS4 gamers in January is Portal Knights. This Minecraft-style sandbox game combines collecting resources and building objects with action combat and dangerous monsters. Portal Knights can also be played with friends, with the game supporting up to four players at once.

The first free game for January 2019 on PS3 is Zone of the Enders HD Collection. This bundle includes both Zone of the Enders and Zone of the Enders: The 2nd Runner. Both games have been improved visually, and have trophy support on PS3.

Amplitude is the second PS3 game that's free in January. This rhythm game puts players in the cockpit of a spaceship as they blast through a scrolling track. Players must shoot at dots that represent beats and other parts of the song in time with the music. Think Guitar Hero, but with blasters instead of a plastic instrument.

PS Vita

First up for PS Vita in January is Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion, which is also available on PS4 via Cross-Buy. Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion is a side-scrolling action RPG, with players controlling up to four characters at once. When not fighting, players must make major decisions that impact the outcome of the story.

The final game for PS Vita in January is Super Mutant Alien Assault. Players control security robots tasked with saving humanity from an onslaught of evil alien monsters. This action platformer features randomized elements, making every game different from the last.
