‘PUBG’ Metal Rain Event Adds Special Vehicle - Dates, Flare Gun Spawns & More

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has a new Event Mode called Metal Rain. A new Steam Community post details how special vehicles and Flare Guns might change your matches over the weekend.

WHEN DOES ‘PUBG’S METAL RAIN EVENT START AND END?

Metal Rain went live April 19 at 10 p.m. EDT and continues through April 22 at 10 p.m. EDT. At that point the mode and its associated perks will be removed from the game.

HOW DOES ‘PUBG’S METAL RAIN EVENT WORK?

Metal Rain takes place on Erangel and features up to 12 Squads of eight players each for a maximum total of 96 players. Redzones, regular Bluezone rules and traditional Care Package drops are enabled. The central twist for the weekend revolves around the controversial Flare Gun that debuted in late March. In addition to dropping trumped-up Care Packages like before, flares also offer heavily armored UAZ vehicles. So, if you need a quick getaway, the Flare Gun has instantly become your best solution.

WHERE DO FLARE GUNS SPAWN IN ‘PUBG’ METAL RAIN?

Unlike the previous implementation of the Flare Gun, this one is far less predictable. The guns spawn in the same spots you’d traditionally find loot, and they appear at random. When fired in the white circle, Flare Guns drop Care Packages. Any location outside that circle calls for a special vehicle.

High-risk locations like the Military Base, School, Pochinki and Hospital are probably the best places to find a Flare Gun, if you’d like to test one out. That being said, there’s an incredibly high chance for ambush if you stay in those spots for an extended period of time. If you want something a bit safer, Mylta Power can sometimes serve as a solid compromise between loot and security depending on how the match unfolds. Conditions vary widely across every PUBG match, so use your head and you’ll likely come across a Flare Gun fairly easily.

When you find a Flare Gun, equip it as a sidearm and aim at the sky. The flare needs to reach at least 200 meters to be effective. It goes without saying that firing flares alerts enemies, so find a safe spot to let loose.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available now on PC and in Game Preview on Xbox One. The Metal Rain Event Mode is exclusive to PC.
