PUBG Mobile version 0.8.5 has finally released in beta form, and you can try it now on Android or iOS. In this quick guide, we'll teach you how to install the new version ahead of its formal release. Traditionally there would be a bulky invite system via Discord, but Tencent has made the process fairly easy this time around.

Note that on either device you shouldn't need to remove the live version of PUBG Mobile to try this one.

PUBG Mobile for iOS requires a minimum iPhone 5S with iOS 9 or higher.

  1. Log in once to the regular version of PUBG Mobile via Facebook if you haven't already.
  2. Click this link from your device. A screen will ask if the link can open in iTunes. Press "Install" and the download will begin.
  3. You may need to tap the gray icon on your home screen to get past the "waiting" step. This process takes a while, so we'd recommend plugging your device into a charger and doing something else for a bit. When it's ready, the icon will properly appear.
  4. Upon first launch, you'll receive a warning about the app potentially being unsafe. At this point go to Settings > General > Device Management > PUBG Mobile and select "trust." If you've installed other PUBG Mobile betas in the past you may be able to skip this step.
  5. Launch the app as normal and log in with the Facebook account.

What's New in 'PUBG Mobile' 0.8.5

Tencent has not released English patch notes for the latest beta, but the consensus is that it mainly focuses on performance optimization and bug fixes. Many users have noticed major performance drops after installing 0.8.0, so this patch aims to address those. When asked about what's changed in the contents of update 0.8.5, Tencent community management staff said "not much."

In other words, we probably wouldn't waste time installing this beta and would just wait for the final build of PUBG Mobile 0.8.5 to go live sometime in the near future. There aren't any new maps or hallmark features to speak of.

PUBG Mobile is available now on Android and iOS.
