Puppies Make Miraculous Recovery After 12ft Fall

Two puppies that survived a devastating fall have recovered thanks to the dedicated team at a St Lucia animal shelter.

In a video posted to TikTok by user @helpaws on 8 June, the two dogs are seen being nursed back to health after falling over 12 feet to the ground.

In the video, HelpAWS explains that the first puppy was brought into the shelter after being found injured.

"She was screaming in pain," the video caption reads, over a clip of the poor pup writhing in pain in a dog carrier.

So happy we rescued these two ❤️❤️

Fortunately, with medication and treatment, she slowly started eating and drinking. However, a few days later, the same person brought in the dog's sister.

It was believed that the second puppy had also fallen and was "very shaken up."

"But once we treated her, she also started eating and drinking," the shelter said in the clip, alongside footage of the second dog drinking from a bottle.

From there, the video takes a more positive turn, showing both puppies happily playing together on the shelter floor and outdoors.

According to PETA, more than 6 million animals enter shelters each year in the U.S. Roughly 51 percent of animal shelters are classed as "no-kill" organizations, and aim to save every animal taken into their care. In comparison, "kill" shelters euthanize animals that are old or ill, or when the shelter reaches its full capacity.

No-kill communities are growing, with the number of shelters across the nation doubling between 2016 and 2021. However, these organizations rely on donations to exist, and also struggle with issues such as overcrowding. This means even no-kill shelters have to turn away animals or euthanize a small number to cope with the demand.

TikTokers were touched by the heartbreaking tale, with the video receiving more than 26,000 likes and over 1,000 comments.

"Thank you for saving them," said Lydia Simpson260.

"Wish there were more people like you," wrote francismaria30.

"May God bless you," commented user6488382677790.

Many users were concerned about how the animals ended up falling from such a great height.

"I would like to know how they fell 12ft?" asked angelacolburn259.

"Fallen or thrown?" wondered RapunzelOfDoom.

"People in this world do cruel things," wrote soccerstar027.

"I'm so happy that they [recovered] and are being loved fed and watered! I pray that they find their dream home!"

The two pups aren't the only ones to have beaten the odds thanks to some kind strangers. Firefighters were praised after rescuing a group of puppies trapped in a tortoise den (by a 100lbs tortoise) earlier this week, while a group of rescuers saved a dog after it fell 30 feet into a sinkhole in Minnesota.
