A puppy who was rescued alongside her sister has suffered the heartbreak of seeing her sibling adopted while she remains at the shelter.

In truth, both Fresa and Flor were lucky to have even made it to Pet Rescue Solutions in South El Monte, California, given the callous way they were all but left for dead by their previous owner.

"Fresa was found in a paper bag along with her sibling," shelter director Eva Rainwater told Newsweek. "Someone found them both and brought them in."

Statistically speaking, puppies stand the best chance of being adopted from an animal shelter. A study by the website Priceonomics breaking down adoption data from the Petfinder website found that 95 percent of puppies entering shelters over the given period ended up finding a forever home.

That certainly proved to be the case for Flor, who was adopted last week. But, as her new owners came to take her away to a happy new life, her sibling Fresa was watching on, confused as to why she had been left behind.

Having gone through so much together already, that response is perhaps understandable but the reality is that it was always unlikely that they would be adopted together.

Fresa the rescue puppy's reaction

...

It certainly hit the poor pup hard. Rainwater confirmed that the young puppy has been struggling badly since Flor's departure, which took away one of the main sources of comfort and engagement she had. "Fresa has been sad and missing her sister," she said.

Despite this, she remains confident that Fresa will eventually find her own forever family. It just might take her a little longer. "Fresa will do good with other dogs and kids," Rainwater said.

Thankfully, Fresa is already drumming up lots of interest online after Pet Rescue Solutions posted the clip of his heartbroken reaction to seeing his sibling leave.

"Sweet Fresa is still waiting for her chance," a caption accompanying the clip explained. It had the desired effect with dog fans flocking to comment on the footage.

"She looks so sad," one viewer lamented with another writing: "Awe please tell me she's getting adopted." A third spoke directly to Fresa telling her: "Your time will come too precious little one" while a fourth declared she was simply: "the cutest."

There were multiple comments from animal lovers eager to adopt Fresa. Several California residents even chimed in to express their interest.

The video itself has racked up 73,000 views and counting. Unfortunately, the interest in the video has yet to translate into any concrete adoption offers.

Fresa is still available for adoption. After such a difficult and distressing start to her life, the hope is that she does not stay that way for too much longer now.
