QAnon Supporters Think Oprah Was Wearing Ankle Monitor During Meghan Markle Interview

While the world reacted to the bombshell revelations from Meghan Markle's major TV interview on Sunday night, supporters of the QAnon conspiracy theory instead regurgitated previous false claims, insisting Oprah Winfrey was wearing an ankle monitor while questioning the royal.

The highly anticipated interview from Prince Harry and Meghan was aired Sunday night on CBS News, with some of the biggest talking points including claims the British royal family were concerned that their son would be "too brown" to be given a title of prince, and how the Duchess of Sussex had thoughts of suicide due to the intense scrutiny she received in the tabloid press.

However, instead of discussing the issues raised during the interview, QAnon supporters questioned whether Winfrey was wearing an ankle monitor underneath her boots following a secret arrest.

The claim was being made by conspiracy theorists online, posing the question on social media sites such as Twitter and Gab.

We The Media, a popular QAnon channel on messaging service app Telegram, asked its near 200,000 subscribers on Sunday night "Oprah ankle monitor?" while sharing an image of her boots. The question prompted a slew of replies in agreement.

"So obvious, first few minutes she was strategically keeping both her feet behind that little table then got comfortable or forgot about need to conceal it ...she should fire the camera man," wrote Telegram user Roxanne F.

Fellow Telegram user Mrs Kennedy asked: "People keep arguing that it's a microphone pack... but why would that be on your ankle?"

In response, Stroud Mom said: "At the furthest point away from the mouth, and where the microphone would pick up on any time she repositioned herself, in her seat? I don't think so."

A similar post, including pictures that highlight where they claim the monitor is, was also posted on the Q-Tip and Qtah Telegram channels, which have more than 93,000 and 66,000 subscribers respectively.

On Twitter, @KiSolace tweeted: "They got Oprah covered head to toe because of that ankle monitor huh?"

For QAnon supporters, who have recently had to accept that Donald Trump would not be inaugurated as president on March 4, this is the latest in a string of ankle monitor-related claims.

The theory stems from one of the core beliefs of the radical movement, that there is a secret cabal of satanic pedophiles involving leading Democrats and the Hollywood elite.

QAnon followers also believe these high-profile child abusers will be arrested and executed as part of the eagerly awaited prophecy known as "the storm"—an event that has been predicted to happen several times down the years to no avail

The conspiracy theorists previously claimed that pictures of Hilary Clinton in a foot brace in 2017 was in fact Trump's former opponent wearing a secret ankle monitor after she was arrested on suspicion of being part of a high-profile pedophile ring.

The claim was also repeated when President Joe Biden fractured his foot while playing with his dog in December 2020.

When Biden's doctor confirmed that he would be required to wear a walking boot for several weeks because of his injury, QAnon claimed this was a cover-up because he had also been arrested for child sex trafficking.

This is not the first time that Winfrey has been subjected to wild conspiracy. In April 2020, Winfrey uploaded a video of herself cooking while staying at home amid the coronavirus pandemic.

By June, a number of conspiracy theorists had shared an image of Winfrey cooking, claiming that she is wearing an ankle monitor. Similar misinformation was also made against Ellen DeGeneres by QAnon supporters.

Winfrey previously responded to conspiracy claims she was arrested in March 2020.

"Just got a phone call that my name is trending. And being trolled for some awful FAKE thing," Winfrey tweeted.

"It's NOT TRUE. Haven't been raided, or arrested. Just sanitizing and self distancing with the rest of the world. Stay safe everybody."
