New Details Revealed In Alleged R. Kelly Assault Of Baltimore Teenager In 1996

Two more women have come forward to detail their alleged underage encounter with R&B singer R. Kelly. A witness has also come forward to corroborate their story.

Latresa Scaff and Rochelle Washington were 16 and 15 years old, respectively, when they snuck out to attend Kelly’s 1996 concert at the Baltimore Arena. The women had flyers for an after party at a nightclub near the arena, where they were plied with marijuana and alcohol. After that, they were invited to Kelly’s hotel room.

In a turn of events that’s become a familiar narrative in recent weeks, Scaff alleged that Kelly sexually assaulted her, while a frightened Washington locked herself in the bathroom. Scaff and Washington detailed their encounter with Kelly to Baltimore CBS affiliate WJZ reporter Mary Bubula.

“At what point did it turn from exciting and cool you’re with R. Kelly…to terror?” Bubula asked the women.

“He entered the room already exposing himself to us,” Washington said.

Washington recently stood by Scaff’s side as Scaff described her assault at a February 21 news conference in New York City.

“When Kelly was alone with me, he asked me to perform oral sex on him. I was under the influence of marijuana and alcohol, and I did it,” Scaff said at the press conference. “He then had sexual intercourse with me, even though I did not have the capacity to consent.”

Twenty-three years after the alleged assault, Scaff and Washington were recognized by a sole witness: a woman identified as Sabrina who saw them stumbling out of the elevator at Kelly’s hotel. The three women reunited on-camera during the WJZ interview.

Sabrina told Bubula she had thought of the women for “many, many years.” She also said she could tell they were young, describing the scene that unfolded before her.

“You could clearly see that she was in pain… She couldn’t walk. She was bent over walking alongside the wall,” Sabrina said. “And she began to tell me she was in a room with R. Kelly and you know, they had sex. It was very rough. He left her on the bed and said that he would come back. He never came back. Security came and told her Robert was waiting for her in the lobby.”

When asked if she could corroborate the women’s story, Sabrina said she “sure can.” She also told WJZ that she, too, had been invited to meet Kelly, but after seeing Scaff and Washington, she fled.

The three women have met with the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Eastern District of New York as part of a federal investigation. They are represented by attorney Gloria Allred.

Recent allegations have surfaced as a result of the Lifetime six-part docuseries Surviving R. Kelly. If convicted of all the charges against him, Kelly could face up to 70 years in prison.

Kelly was acquitted of child pornography charges in 2008.
