Rapper Wisdom Charged With Attempted Murder In Connection To Miami Shooting

Rapper Wisdom Awute has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, following a shooting in Miami Beach, Florida, on Monday night.

The 21-year-old musician, who goes by the name Wisdom, was arrested alongside Christopher Urena, 29, on charges of attempted murder and assault.

Wisdom is on the Billion Dollar Baby Entertainment roster, fronted by fellow rapper DaBaby, who was also brought in for questioning on Tuesday. DaBaby, 29—real name Jonathan Lyndale Kirk—was released within hours.

The shooting took place near the Prime 112 steakhouse and left two people injured—including one critically.

According to a police report, obtained by the Miami Herald, two men were attempting to get into their car at approximately 11:20 pm on Monday in front of the eatery when they got into a fight with "a famous musical entourage."

One victim recounted to police that Awute then pulled out his gun, shooting one of the men in the right calf. According to the police report, the victim was able to identify Awute as the shooter.

In Urena's case, police received a report that an individual driving a black Chrysler 300 was attempting to flee the scene of the shooting.

Police pulled the vehicle over and were told by Urena, who was the only person in the car, that as his vehicle was blocking the valet he got in to move it.

According to his arrest report, when Urena entered his car, a group of men pointed a gun at him and shot at him as he drove away.

During a search, police found a gun magazine in Urena's bag. He has been charged with additional counts, including theft and a weapons charge.

"In less than 24 hours, Miami Beach detectives were able to ensure those responsible for the shooting were arrested and charged," said MBPD spokesperson Ernesto Rodriguez, per the Miami Herald.

"We will now work closely with the State Attorney's Office to ensure a successful prosecution."

In a series of tweets, the Miami Beach Police Department shared a detailed account of the night's events.

The thread started: "Monday evening, at 11:37 p.m., MBPD received multiple 911 calls of a possible shooting near 1 Street and Ocean Drive. Officers quickly arrived on scene and located two victims."

"Miami Beach Fire Rescue transported both patients to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Unit," read a follow-up tweet.

"One patient suffered a shoulder wound and the other a leg wound. Multiple witnesses are currently being interviewed as a part of the ongoing investigation."

Later on Tuesday, an update was added, which read: "Jonathan Lyndale Kirk who was being interviewed by detectives has been released.
