'Red Dead Redemption 2' Character Reveals: Meet the Men and Women of the Wild West
Several Red Dead Redemption 2 characters have been named on the Rockstar Twitter account this morning. While no other details are given for the character outside of a name and a quote, it helps fill in some of the gaps from the Red Dead Redemption 2 trailers, or at least puts names to faces.
Dutch van der Linde pic.twitter.com/JChjsu6Ba5
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
The first reveal is Dutch van der Linde. He's the leader of the outlaw gang that player character Arthur Morgan belongs to. We already know some of Dutch's history, seeing as how he was the bad guy in the previous game, Red Dead Redemption.

Rockstar also released a mock Wanted poster for Van der Linde, explaining that he's been involved in numerous murders in addition to his robbery. Clearly this guy isn't the nicest fellow in the West.
Hosea Matthews pic.twitter.com/1fVEimJAeZ
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Other characters have been popping up every half hour this morning, including Hosea Matthews. Now that's a name I've never seen before. If I were to guess who he is based on his picture, I'd assume he's another member of the Van der Linde gang.
Molly O'Shea pic.twitter.com/SDpQQ3L0TF
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Next up is Molly O'Shea. Judging on her outfit, Molly isn't a gang member. She looks too clean to be sleeping in a tent. My guess is Molly might be some sort of love interest for Arthur Morgan.
Susan Grimshaw pic.twitter.com/65ru13ZaKG
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Another woman of the Wild West, Susan Grimshaw has also been revealed in the thread. Susan's unkempt hair makes me think she'll be a female member of the Van der Linde gang. We've also seen in trailers that the gang travels around with more people than just the core bank robbers. It's possible she's simply following along and keeping the camp in order. I'm pretty sure Susan is the one sitting by the fire at around the 2:30 mark in the video above.
Pearson pic.twitter.com/AyRM3x5mME
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Next up is a man only known as Pearson. His quote mentions keeping people fed, making me think either he's one of the supporting members of the Van der Linde gang that helps watch over the camp, or is some sort of small government official, like a town's mayor.
Micah Bell pic.twitter.com/UEq2HzaoPS
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Another new reveal is a man named Micah Bell. He definitely is a member of the Van der Linde gang, as he can be seen in the Gameplay Trailer above talking to Arthur Morgan in the camp. Look at around the 2:55 mark in the video. Also, just look at him. He seems kinda evil.
Charles Smith pic.twitter.com/e3CXmtgmLG
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
The Rockstar Twitter account has updated again, this time introducing Charles Smith. It seems based on his quote he is a member of the Van der Linde gang as well.
Bill Williamson pic.twitter.com/uEL8iYR3J6
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Bill Williamson has also joined the cast of Red Dead Redemption 2. Williamson looks gruff, and was confirmed to be a member of the Van der Linde gang in Red Dead Redemption. His quote also sounds like something a bank robber would say to people while he's doing his job.
Leopold Strauss pic.twitter.com/TLc6PEHBmf
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Leopold Strauss is also a character in Red Dead Redemption 2. This old man has a book in his portrait, and mentions how the world is evil in his quote. This makes me think he isn't a member of the Van der Linde gang. I would guess he's some kind of government official, or works in law enforcement. It's also possible he's a bank owner that gets robbed.
John Marston pic.twitter.com/C6RvC42FnV
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Although already confirmed, John Marston has his own little bio picture for Red Dead Redemption 2. Marston is a member of the Van der Linde gang, but we know from Red Dead Redemption that Marston leaves the gang behind. It'll be interesting to see Marston in his old life as a bank robber in Red Dead Redemption 2.
Abigail Roberts pic.twitter.com/opWWjtTysu
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Abigail Roberts has joined the Van der Linde gang in Red Dead Redemption 2. This is almost definitely John Marston's future wife, as she rode with the Van der Linde gang before marrying Marston.
Jack Marston pic.twitter.com/4eYK05ju01
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
This one is curious and a little confusing. Rockstar is saying Jack Marston, son of John and Abigail Marston, will be in Red Dead Redemption 2. This means the story will go right up to the plot of Red Dead Redemption, and may even overlap it at times. You can see little Jack in the trailer above at the 2:39 mark.
Karen Jones pic.twitter.com/cdiaFuKgYN
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Karen Jones is almost definitely a member of the Van der Linde gang. Her quote talks about running scams and robbing banks, which seems like pretty conclusive evidence. I'm pretty sure you can catch a glimpse or two of Jones at the gang's camp in the gameplay trailer above.
Javier Escuella pic.twitter.com/uqWXFDcblf
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Javier Escuella is a known member of the Van der Linde gang. He can be seen in Red Dead Redemption in Nuevo Paradiso, sheltering previously mentioned Bill Williamson.
Tilly Jackson pic.twitter.com/cnx5GSpAc8
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Tilly Jackson seems to be another member of the Van der Linde gang, but looks like she's one that stays back at the camp instead of robbing banks. She can be seen in the trailer above at around the 2:48 mark.
Uncle pic.twitter.com/Te6JagHPvP
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Simply known as Uncle, this old timer looks like a member of the Van der Linde gang's camp. I wouldn't be surprised to see if he's a cook or just a lazy guy hanging around while eveyrone else gets things done.
Mary-Beth Gaskill pic.twitter.com/FyNwqCoCqk
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Next up is Mary-Beth Gaskill. Her appearance doesn't really scream being an outlaw gang member, but her quote makes it sound like she could be one of the brains behind the Van der Linde gang. Maybe she's like Lester in GTA V, providing intel and opportunities to score some cash without getting her hands dirty.
Lenny Summers pic.twitter.com/hFLWPHxpui
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
With his quote about living free and not wanting it any other way, it definitely looks like Lenny Summers is a member of the Van der Linde gang.
Josiah Trelawny pic.twitter.com/TambuqgpRi
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Josiah Trelawny has a great hat in his portrait, along with a pretty rockin' moustache. His quote and appearance make it look like he isn't a member of the Van der Linde gang, but maybe it's the perfect disguise for somone who really is a career criminal.
Reverend Swanson pic.twitter.com/LbpyfPl7As
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Reverend Swanson, despite his name, doesn't appear to be a holy man anymore. According to his quote, he lost his faith, family and job. Guessing based on his portrait, this is because of drinking, and possibly robbing banks.
Sean Macguire pic.twitter.com/JeXhmDESIo
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Phew, the updates keep on coming. The next update is Sean Macguire. He looks like a guy who wants to rob banks.
Sadie Adler pic.twitter.com/ce0btUIoka
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
Sadie Adler is one of the many members of the Van der Linde gang. Based on appearances in other trailers, Adler only trusts Morgan, and even that relationship seems a little rocky.
Arthur Morgan pic.twitter.com/dDEZOceEBf
— Rockstar Games (@RockstarGames) September 6, 2018
We also have Arthur Morgan, the protagonist of Red Dead Redemption 2. We already know he's a member of the Van der Linde gang, but it sounds like player choice will determine if he stays with the group of outlaws or leaves to pursue an honest life.
This article will update if any new character reveals are posted.
