One of the Boston Red Sox's clear needs this offseason is going to be acquiring another high-end starting pitcher.

Boston's pitching staff had a good season overall, boasting a 3.70 ERA, the fifth-most in the league, while allowing only 596 earned runs. The team has a bona fide star pitcher in Garrett Crochet, but aside from Brayan Bello, the rest of the rotation is full of question marks.

Lucas Giolito had a resurgent season, though he missed the playoffs with an elbow injury, and has a mutual option with the Red Sox this offseason. Tanner Houck, Kutter Crawford, Hunter Dobbins and Richard Fitts were all injured by the end of the season. Boston does have some intriguing young options in Connelly Early and Payton Tolle, but it's unclear what the rotation will look like.

It has been common knowledge that the Red Sox want more pitching despite their successes this season, with Boston reportedly targeting players like Joe Ryan before the trade deadline. Free agency offers the Red Sox multiple options to add an All-Star hurler this offseason. The New York Post's Jon Heyman suggested that Framber Valdez and Ranger Suárez could both be options for Boston this offseason in a video posted to YouTube by Bleacher Report.

"Framber Valdez could, I could see that," Heyman said Friday in a video posted to YouTube by Bleacher Report. "Ranger Suárez, I could see that. Lefties have had success in Fenway (Park) even with the Green Monster."

Valdez and Suárez are both former All-Stars coming off solid campaigns. Valdez touted a 3.66 ERA with 187 strikeouts across 31 starts for the Houston Astros, while Suárez had a 3.20 ERA in 26 starts. Either hurler would be a welcome addition for Boston, but Suárez offers a slightly younger option and has a somewhat better playoff resume.
