Despite being shut down for the past week with an intercostal (rib) strain, Boston Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas will reportedly resume hitting on Monday as he progresses in his rehab.
"Casas is expected to begin swinging again on Monday," The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey reported in a post to X on Saturday. "It wasn’t as severe as they feared."
Casas opened this season on the 10-day injured list as he continues to work his way back from a surgery he underwent in May 2025 to repair a ruptured patellar tendon in his left leg. The 26-year-old first baseman still has a way to go before returning to the field for the Red Sox, but it's positive for Casas that this setback is not as severe as initially thought.

It will be interesting to see how the Red Sox utilize Casas once he returns, given how poorly he performed last season before getting injured. The first baseman struggled at the plate, slashing .182/.277/.303 with three home runs and 11 runs batted in across 29 games.
Boston traded for three-time All-Star Willson Contreras this offseason to be the team's everyday first baseman, and addresses its outfield logjam by shuffling an outfielder into the designated hitter spot most games.
It's great to see Casas making progress in his rehab, though there is still no clear role for him of the Red Sox's roster at this time.
