Redditors Share the TV Intros They'd Never Skip in Viral Post

A lot goes into creating an exciting and memorable TV show intro. For starters, the theme song is "supposed to be the signature" of the show, according to composer Lenny Williams.

"It's supposed to get you in the mood. The moment you hear that sound, the bell rings and you're hungry," he told those with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

"In the best situation, when the right people have talked to the [right] composer and given the right advice, the result can be a song that millions of people sing all over the country and all over the world," the Kennedy Center stated.

The visuals that accompany the theme song can become iconic as well, as they help set the show's tone. Take, for example, the image of the Friends cast sitting on a couch in front of a fountain in Central Park.

The Kennedy Center explained that in the 1950s and '60s, theme songs acted as an "alarm clock," meant to alert viewers that their show was about to start. Over time, however, the theme song and its accompanying visuals began to work together as a "commercial" for the show itself, acting as a sort of "promise" for what was to come.

On Monday, the topic of TV show intros and theme songs went viral on Reddit, after Redditor u/Blue_Affinity asked the online community: "What show has an intro that is such a banger, you wouldn't dream of hitting the skip button? So far, the post has received more than 13,000 votes and over 14,000 comments. Here are some of the top answers:

1. True Detective, Season 1

Many commenters felt that the season's theme song—The Handsome Family's Far From Any Road—set the perfect tone for the show.

"[I] LOVE that song! It's so eerie and appropriate to that season. I have watched the first season—every episode—at least 8 times. It might be more. Never skip the intro and sing along," said u/Lindaspike.

"Yeah. This. It's the perfect intro and sets your scene before the show even started," added u/highlandviper.

2. Cowboy Bebop

The show's theme song is Tank! by the band, Seatbelts. According to Cowboy Bebop Wiki, the band was specifically formed to create the show's music.

"Finally started watching that show after wanting to do so for years now. Every time that 'Skip Intro' button pops up, I'm just thinking 'F**k right off. I ain't skipping this,'" shared u/OutcastMunkee.

"This intro is what sold me on anime lol," added u/bolson1717.

3. Westworld

Grammy-nominated artist Ramin Djawadi composed the show's theme song. He also scored Iron Man and Game of Thrones.

"When the tone deepens and changes near the end of the intro and everything becomes unraveled, that always gives me a tickle of serotonin," said u/DevNDevelopment.

"It's catchy and beautiful. The images add to the experience. Trying to figure out the symbolism for the season," commented u/roadrunner00.

Other TV shows mentioned were: Golden Girls, Malcolm in the Middle, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Futurama.
