A former brother-in-law of Renee Nicole Good, who was fatally shot by an ICE officer in Minneapolis on Wednesday, told the Daily Mail that “she should have minded her own business.”

“She had no reason to be there, in my opinion,” Good’s former brother-in-law, Joseph Macklin, told the outlet.

He told the outlet, “It had nothing to do with her. She shouldn't have been in the way. She had nothing to do with the ICE agents or immigration, so she shouldn't have been there. She should have minded her own business.”

Why It Matters

Good, 37, was fatally shot by an ICE officer during a traffic stop in a residential neighborhood in Minneapolis on Wednesday. A large group of protesters gathered in Minneapolis after the shooting.

The shooting came amid a series of immigration enforcement operations in major cities under President Donald Trump’s administration.

The Department of Homeland Security said on X on Wednesday that one of several "violent rioters" attempted to "run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism." The agency said the ICE officer, "fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots."

State and local leaders disputed the claim that the ICE officer was acting in self-defense.

“They are already trying to spin this as an act of self-defense. Having seen the video myself, I wanna tell everybody directly, that is bulls***," Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said.

What To Know

Macklin told the Daily Mail that he was “pretty astonished that the agent definitely wasn't in the right.”

“She did just drive off, but he wasn't in front of her. It ain't like she tried to run him over, from the video I've seen. She was just trying to get away, it looked like,” Macklin told the outlet.

He told the outlet that Good was “kind-hearted and she cared about everyone.”

“She was a good mother and a good person, and she didn’t deserve this,” Macklin told the outlet.

Good was a mother of three and had recently moved to Minnesota. She appears to have never been charged with anything involving law enforcement beyond a traffic ticket, the Associated Press reported.

Video taken by bystanders appeared to show an officer approaching her car, demanding she open the car door and grabbing the door handle. As she begins to move forward, another ICE officer appears to pull out his weapon and fire at least two shots into the vehicle.

The Department of Homeland Security said the ICE officers hurt in the incident “are expected to make full recoveries.”

What People Are Saying

Joseph Macklin, a former brother-in-law of Renee Nicole Good, in comments to the Daily Mail: “I wish she would’ve minded her business and stayed out the way. I know families are being broken apart, and I know she was trying to help, and it’s heartbreaking. But now it’s our family, and now her kids don’t have a mom… and one of them has lost both mom and dad.”

President Donald Trump, on Truth Social: "The woman driving the car was very disorderly, obstructing and resisting, who then violently, willfully, and viciously ran over the ICE Officer, who seems to have shot her in self-defense. Based on the attached clip, it is hard to believe he is alive, but is now recovering in the hospital. The situation is being studied, in its entirety, but the reason these incidents are happening is because the Radical Left is threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis. They are just trying to do the job of MAKING AMERICA SAFE. We need to stand by and protect our Law Enforcement Officers from this Radical Left Movement of Violence and Hate!"

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, on X: "I’ve seen the video. Don’t believe this propaganda machine. The state will ensure there is a full, fair, and expeditious investigation to ensure accountability and justice."
