Restaurants Open on Memorial Day 2021: McDonald's, Burger King, and More

Memorial Day is today and families across the U.S. will be celebrating by having lunch or dinner together. But which restaurants are open on Memorial Day?

Memorial Day, a holiday to honor those who died while serving in the U.S. military, is always observed on the last Monday of May.

The holiday originated in the years following the Civil War and was originally known as Decoration Day, before becoming a federal holiday in 1971. As a federal holiday, federal services will be unavailable, U.S. Postal Service will not deliver mail, and banks will be closed.

However, private businesses, including restaurants, can decide whether or not to close. Many restaurants will remain open on Memorial Day, and many will be offering deals and discounts for military members and veterans.

Remember that while most restaurants will be open, some may follow holiday hours and these may vary by location. Additionally, be sure to stay up to date with your local COVID-19 restrictions, as some restaurants may be limiting the number of guests or only serving guests outside, for example.

Restaurants Open on Memorial Day

Applebee's restaurants generally remain open on Memorial Day but they may follow reduced Sunday hours. Arby's tends to stay open following normal business hours on Memorial Day, only closing for major holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Burger King restaurants are open year-round, though some locations may close or operate with reduced hours on major holidays. Chick-fil-A restaurants close on Sundays but will be open for Memorial Day.

Chili's Grill & Bar will be open today, only closing on Thanksgiving and Christmas. If you want to celebrate Memorial Day with pizza, you're in luck, as Domino's Pizza is also open today.

Dunkin' Donuts will be open today, so you can start your morning off with coffee. Most Jack in the Box restaurants will be open on Memorial Day but check with your local restaurant for hours.

Fast-food restaurants like KFC and McDonald's will be open today, but as with most fast-food chains, hours will vary by location.

Olive Garden will be open, so you can enjoy endless breadsticks on Memorial Day. Panera Bread will also be open, as it only closes on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day.

Pizza Hut's hours will vary by location but the chain's restaurants will generally be open today. Red Lobster will also be open on Memorial Day—why not treat your loved ones to a seafood dinner?

If you're looking for fast food today, Sonic Drive-In is also open, as is Subway, though hours may vary by location. Taco Bell only closes on Thanksgiving and Christmas, so will be open today, as will Wendy's, which offers discounts through the WendyMail program created for VetRewards.
