Who Is Performing at the 2019 Rockefeller Christmas Tree Lighting in NYC?

In a spectacle that rivals the unveiling of the leg lamp in A Christmas Story, Rockefeller Center's annual Christmas tree lighting will feature 12 top-notch performances and appearances.

On Wednesday, thousands of people will line New York City's streets and millions will tune in online to watch the annual Christmas tree lighting, now in its 87th year. Set to begin at 8 p.m. ET, the holiday spectacle involves much more than just turning on the 50,000 solar-powered lights that bring the tree to life.

Broadcast live on NBC, the evening will include commentary from Today co-hosts Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, Craig Melvin and Al Roker and musical performances from a number of familiar faces.

Singers John Legend and Brett Eldredge will perform for the second consecutive year, according to Rockefeller Center. Last year, Legend sang "What Christmas Means to Me" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and Eldredge performed "Winter Wonderland."

Their song selection hasn't been publicly released but both artists have holiday albums. While neither of them were released in 2019, both artists are pushing their content, so it's reasonable to expect they'll select something from those tracklists.

In December, Eldredge will embark on a 10-performance Glow tour, named after his 2016 holiday album that was released in a deluxe version in 2018. On November 8, Legend released a deluxe version of A Legendary Christmas, his holiday album that was released in 2018, with four additional tracks—"This Christmas," "My Favorite Things," "Christmas in New Orleans" and a revamped version of "Baby, It's Cold Outside."

Newsweek reached out to Rockefeller Center but did not receive a response in time for publication.

Legend won't be the only The Voice judge performing during Wednesday's event and singer Gwen Stefani is also expected to spread holiday cheer by singing loud for all to hear. Stefani performed "My Gift Is You," at Rockefeller Center for the 2017 tree lighting.

In addition to Legend, Eldredge and Stefani, Julianne and Derek Hough, Lea Michele, Idina Menzel, NE-Yo, Straight No Chaser and the Radio City Rockettes are slated to perform. The night will also include appearances by actors Alex Newell and Skylar Astin and Miss America 2019 Mia Franklin.

After the official tree lighting, the 77-foot Norway spruce will remain in Rockefeller Center until January 17. Visitors looking to get into the festive spirit with a glimpse of the tree can see it all lit up every day, except Christmas and New Year's, between the hours of 6 a.m. ET and midnight.
