Roommate Returns Home to Find 3 People and 2 Dogs Shot Dead: Police

A roommate in Florida returned home to find that three people and two dogs had been shot dead, according to police.

The Port St. Lucie resident made the grisly discovery at the 1900 block of South West Cameo Boulevard at about 6:28 p.m. on Sunday.

In a Port St. Lucie Police Department (PSLPD) Facebook post shared early on Monday, a spokesperson said the victims had been shot.

"Preliminary investigation has revealed that a roommate returned to the residence and discovered deceased individuals inside the house. The roommate exited the house and called 911.

"PSLPD officers arrived on scene and found three individuals and two dogs deceased from apparent gunshot wounds inside."

No further information about the identities of the victims was shared in the police statement.

Detectives carried out an investigation at the home and were on the scene at the time the post was uploaded to the social media platform.

Police said officers weren't looking for any other people in connection with the shooting and that the site has now been secured.

Newsweek has contacted the PSLPD for comment.

According to the Gun Violence Archive, a database that collects information about shootings from across the U.S., 156 people in Florida have died as the result of a firearm injury since January 1 this year.

Last week, a guest at a wedding was fatally shot by police in Winter Park, Florida, following an altercation with officers.

Police were called over a disturbance at the Winter Park Library and Events Center on Morse Boulevard at about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.

In a statement sent to Newsweek, the Winter Park Police Department said: "The caller advised of a subject who was assaulting guests at the wedding reception."

It is estimated that 200 people were attending the wedding reception, according to local media reports.

A responding officer who had attempted to talk to the suspect was attacked, police said.

They added in the statement: "On arrival, one of the officers began speaking with the subject when the officer was physically attacked by the subject, leaving the officer unconscious and on the ground."

The statement continued, saying the suspect "physically attacked the second arriving officer, as the crowd began to surround the injured officer. During the physical altercation, the officer discharged his weapon."

The suspect, a man in his 30s, sustained a gunshot wound and was later transported to the hospital, where he died of his injury.
