Ross Perot Quotes: Most Famous Lines From Former Third-Party Presidential Candidate

Self-made billionaire and two-time independent presidential candidate Ross Perot died Tuesday at the age of 89 after battling leukemia.

A trailblazer in the computer services industry, he founded Electronic Data Systems Corp. in 1962 and a quarter century later, Perot Systems Corp. This tech record has led to Perot being called the Bill Gates of the 1960s.

Perot ran an independent presidential campaign in 1992, as well as a third party presidential campaign in 1996 that led to the establishment of the Reform Party. Though both bids were unsuccessful, they wound up being some of the strongest presidential showings ever by a candidate not of a major political party.

A dedicated patriot and philanthropist, Perot went to the office even after nearly dying of a leukemia secondary infection, according to his family. Here are some of his most famous quotes from his time in business and politics:

If I'm poor and you're rich, and I can get you to defend me that's good. But when the tables get turned, I would do my share.

Life is like a cobweb, not an organization chart.

Most people give up just when they're about to achieve success. They quit on the one yard line. They give up at the last minute of the game one foot from a winning touchdown.

Spend a lot of time talking to customers face to face. You'd be amazed how many companies don't listen to their customers.

Inventories can be managed, but people must be led.

Most new jobs won't come from our biggest employers. They will come from our smallest. We've got to do everything we can to make entrepreneurial dreams a reality.

If we did not have such a thing as an airplane today, we would probably create something the size of N.A.S.A. to make one.

Most new jobs won't come from our biggest employers. They will come from our smallest. We've got to do everything we can to make entrepreneurial dreams a reality.

If you can't stand a little sacrifice and you can't stand a trip across the desert with limited water, we're never going to straighten this country out.

Failures are like skinned knees, painful but superficial.
