What People Are Saying
The FDA said in a press release: "Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women."
In October, the CEO of Acme Smoked Fish Corporation, which produces the smoked salmon for Costco, sent a letter to Costco members who had purchased the recalled items to warn them against eating the fish. He wrote: "With an abundance of caution, Acme Smoked Fish Corp. has initiated a voluntary recall on certain packages of Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes," he added.
