Samantha Bee's Ivanka Trump Insult Compared to Roseanne Barr's Racist Tweet by Twitter Users

Samantha Bee was strongly criticized after she insulted Ivanka Trump Wednesday following a controversial social media post from President Donald Trump's eldest daughter. Some social media users said Bee's show Full Frontal should be canceled, just like Roseanne, which was given the boot Tuesday after its star Roseanne Barr said Valerie Jarrett—a former aide to President Barack Obama—looked like an "ape" and Islamic group by-product.

"Ivanka Trump, who works at the White House, goes to post the second most oblivious tweet we've seen this week," Bee, 48, said on Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. "You know, Ivanka—that's a beautiful photo of you and your child. But let me just say, one mother to another, do something about your dad's immigration practices, you feckless c—. He listens to you."

Added Bee: "Put on something tight and low cut, and tell your father to f—ing stop it. Tell him it was an Obama thing and see how it goes, okay?"

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders suggested TBS "must demonstrate that such explicit profanity about female members of this administration will not be condoned," whereas journalist Megyn Kelly couldn't fathom how this "disgusting" commentary could be "acceptable."

Some fans compared Roseanne and Full Frontal, arguing there was a "clear double standard" and Bee was "part of the problem." However, another user countered: "If you think Samantha Bee's vulgarity is equivalent to racism then you're either ignorant, maliciously dishonest or a racist yourself."

The Samantha Bee and Roseanne controversies are just proving that there’s a clear double standard and certain people can say whatever they want and get away with it while others get punished for it Either let everyone voice their opinion no matter how bad or take away free speech

Let’s close our eyes and imagine Hillary Clinton as president and some conservative comedian calling Chelsea a “feckless c*nt.”

Tell us what the coverage would look like, @brianstelter.

"Samantha Bee" If you don't know the difference between another racial slur (from an established racist) & profanity, you're part of the ignorance that brought us this administration. And if you're white telling PoC that Roseanne just made a "joke", you're a racist too! Congrats

Following the backlash, Bee issued an apology for her comments. "I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night," Bee wrote Thursday via Twitter. "It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it."

In a statement to Newsweek Thursday, TBS echoed Bee's comments. "Samantha Bee has taken the right action in apologizing for the vile and inappropriate language she used about Ivanka Trump last night. Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it."

The president's daughter took to social media to share a seemingly harmless picture of her youngest child, Theodore James Kushner. However, it sparked a backlash due to its timing, since it was shared amid reports of 1,500 missing migrant children and the Trump administration's policy of separating parents and children at the United States border. Like Bee, singer-songwriter Halsey also used profanity to express her thoughts on the fashion designer's controversial picture.

"I wonder what #SundayMorning is like for the parents of 1500 lost children your father is responsible for," Halsey, 23, wrote Sunday via Twitter. "F—k your #SundayMorning."

Trump hasn't directly addressed Bee's comments, but she issued a statement not long after Halsey's message. "Focus on what is before you, on what you can control," Trump, 36, wrote Tuesday. "And ignore the trolls."
