SantaCon NYC 2019: Date, Time, Participating Bars, Map and Everything Else You Need to Know

This Saturday thousands of costumed partygoers will flock to New York City to take part in SantaCon, an annual pre-Christmas bar crawl.

SantaCon began in 1994, when a group of activists donned red coats and gathered to mock Christmas' consumerist traditions. It's since evolved into a global party and charity event. While similar events take place in over 300 cities, New York boasts the largest SantaCon, according to the local website.

When Is It?

New York City's SantaCon will take place on Saturday, December 14. It begins at 10 a.m. ET.

Where Does It Begin?

Santas should meet in Times Square at Father Duffy's Square, on 7th Ave. between 46th and 47th St.

What Bars Are Participating?

Many bars will not allow costumed attendees in during SantaCon. It's best to confirm if the bars you're looking to go to are confirmed for the event or are costume friendly. The SantaCon website also indicates "Special Santa Venues" that can only be entered with a small donation made to The Secret Sandy Claus Project. More information about participating bars can be found on the SantaCon map website.

Do I Need a Ticket?

While entry to many of the bars does not require a ticket, entry to the Special Santa Venues does require a $10 donation to the SantaCon charity drive. Over the past nine years, SantaCon has raised over $450,000 for many causes. This year SantaCon partnered with Neighbors Together, City Harvest, The Secret Sandy Claus Project, Figment, Dance Parade, Materials for the Arts, and Clowns Without Borders. Donors will receive a "Santa Badge," along with updates on where Santa is going next and immediate access to "Rudolph's Red Rager" and other SantaCon festivities.

Attendants are recommended to follow SantaCon NYC on Twitter for updates throughout the day.
