#SarahSandersIsALiar Trends After Former White House Press Secretary Says She Doesn't Like Being Called a Liar

Former White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was ridiculed on Twitter with the #SarahSandersIsALiar after she confessed to The New York Times that being called dishonest was the worst insult she received.

"I was attacked for everything, not just my performance," Sanders told the Times in a report published on Sunday. "I was called a fat soccer mom, my kids were threatened, my life was threatened. It was a lot. I hate harping on it, but to be in the position I'm in and to have Secret Service, that's not normal."

She added: "I don't like being called a liar. The other stuff bothered me far less."

Twitter quickly responded by pointing out that the former press secretary admitted to lying during a press briefing about the firing of FBI director James Comey. According to former special counsel Robert Mueller, Sanders told federal investigators during the Russia probe that she provided reporters with baseless information related to Comey's ousting.

After Mueller's report exposed her dishonesty, Sanders called the moment a "slip of the tongue" made in the heat of the moment.

Sanders left the Trump administration in late June. In an emotional farewell address, she insisted that "I love the president" and that she would still be "one of the most outspoken and loyal supporters of the president and his agenda."

Sanders had been a member of Trump's communications team during his 2016 presidential campaign and joined the administration as deputy White House press secretary after the election. The 36-year-old took over as White House press secretary in July 2017, after the resignation of Sean Spicer.

Her resignation was first announced in a tweet by Trump, who wrote that Sanders "is a very special person with extraordinary talents, who has done an incredible job! I hope she decides to run for Governor of Arkansas - she would be fantastic. Sarah, thank you for a job well done!"

Per the president's suggestion, Sanders has said she plans to run for governor in Arkansas when the seat opens up in 2023. During her interview with the Times, she said she'd been "called" to serve in office.

"There are two types of people who run for office: People that are called and people that just want to be a senator or governor. I feel like I've been called," Sanders said. "It's the role I've been pushed into. I wouldn't want to do that if I wasn't the right person to fit what the state needed at that time."
